Hi all! for my first plant post i thought I'd just share with you this little Paphiopedilum species that's blooming right now in my collection. Paphiopedilum thaianum was discovered and named around 2006 in (as it's name implies) Thailand. It's one of the smallest paphiopedilum species, and was originally thought to be a dwarf form of niveum. I purchased this plant around 2 years ago from an Asian orchid nursery (for a whopping 80 dollars ) and it has since rewarded me by growing at glacial speeds and producing this very nice little flower! I think this one has a much better shape than most plants of this species, and has award potential, enjoy!

Very, very nice, Ideal for terrarium? thanks! I don't think they are well suited to a terrarium even though they are small , they like to have a strong breeze and lots of frequent wet dry cycles since they are found near the ocean.

That's gorgeous. I have about 45 paphs and >60 phrags, but I dont have one of those yet.
Apparently Clouds in Jordan, Ontario) has some nbs (near blooming size plants) for sale but the price is steep!

Apparently Clouds in Jordan, Ontario) has some nbs (near blooming size plants) for sale but the price is steep! I got mine in an import from thailand a few years back. This was the first out of the bunch to bloom but i have high hopes for a few siblings. I'm also a slipper collector (species nut here ) and I'm always looking for people to trade with! As for Cloud's pricing, It's one of the slowest growing plants that I have, so it makes sense that they go for a fair amount.

Nicely grown! Congrats on the bloom. It's a nice and fulfilling feeling when an expensive plant blooms!
