Anyone has experience keeping the 'spores'? Do they last? I have collected some and going to test them after a month or so. What's your favorite carpet moss? There are many types of carpet moss out there but this type is my favorite.

OMG. I hate this thing. It is a bane on the surface of most potted Cps for me. I used to have it carpet my VFT pots and eventually, it became so thick that the roots were choked. The growth was all deformed etc. I had to repot it to rescue it. But, as long as you have an open mix underneath, I think it may be manageable. but... if u can make it work...it can give a good look to the pots. ... just be careful and pull it regularly to thin it out. These are all pics from the past.. in 2010-2011.

It does look nice for larger plants though, gives the pot a lawn feel

I clipped some of the spore shoots off that were growing in a recent acquisition and tossed them onto peat and haven't seen anything in a few weeks. Not sure if they were good any mature at the time however. I'm enjoying propigating moss I have collected. Have you grown from spores?

I usually Just grab a pinch of carpet moss and throw it in a new container.... That stuff is invasive enough on it's own.
As for collected moss, been trying for two years to grow it (well) - One pot I gave Up on, removed the dead moss, and then this spring new moss started covering the soil like I had intended. Now I just have to remember to soak the pot often enough. Wonder how it'll do without dormancy though....

It takes about a month, you should see them growing soon!

Where can I get some carpet moss? Can I just look for it outside and wash it in distilled water to get the dirt off?
