On average how long does it usually take drosera capensis to germinate from seed? I planted them about a week ago in sphagnum peat moss and they are covered with plastic to keep in the humidity, and i have them sitting on a heat mat. so far i have not seen anything sprout yet but maybe I'm being a little to impatient.

They should germinate from 2-8 weeks, make sure you didn't cover the seeds directly because they need light to germinate. Give them more time, they should germinate soon

For edible crops, people usually cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil. For carnivorous plants, most of them will not make it if covered because they will need the light to sprout.

Oh okay, I see, yeah I dont have mine covered. Just sprinkled on the media. Is there anyway to know if they have germinated, other than by seeing them sprout eventually?
