So, I recently noticed that now I have over a million posts. I don't like to point fingers, but... Who am I kidding! lloyd??? You rascally mod. I'm not sure whether to feel special or take the hint that I post far too often. Seriously though, I audibly laughed when when I saw the change. Thanks for the humor! And to keep on topic, if other folks do come down to Marion in 2017 for the eclipse, I'll try to bring some plants to swap and give away. It should be fun in the sun... Wait?! That's not right.

I'm not the only wacky one here. It might have been the mysterious krakatoa or anyone with moderator privileges.

Hi Lloyd - Really?! Hmm... I am sorry for the accusation. I suspected you because I was giving you a hard time earlier. I am now, officially, at a loss. Nope, didn't take long. Whoever it was, it's funny! Moving on.

Hi Lloyd (and anyone else who is thinking about being in Marion for the solar eclipse) - I just booked a hotel, but many of them are already full up. I'll be in the Country Inn and Suites. They have free breakfast, free internet, free parking, and free cancellation up until 24hrs in advance, with no payment up front. So if you are honestly even contemplating going, I'd recommend at least holding a room somewhere.

Hi Lloyd - That's awesome! I'll see you there sir!
And yup, I'll be driving down. Know some folks in Champagne, Illinois (not as effervescent a place as it sounds). Will have to do the stop in and visit.

I'm cancelling my reservation. I'm really afraid to go to the USA. At least for the next 4 years. When all the people who voted for President Ford find out he can't/won't help them, the reaction could be scary. Also if he does "help" them as in the Weimar Republic in 1933, anything is possible. First the Hispanics, then the Moslems, then .......

...you guys know what the problem with politics is....?......too many politicians. Maybe a Trump is just what the world needs, he is not a politician. Too many politically correct marionettes do not a government make. I would not hesitate to take a trip down to Marion, despite all my outstanding speeding tickets, unfortunately won't be able to make it. Don't panic just yet guys, the Trump may not be as bad as everyone thinks. My two cents.
AV.

That's what they said about Ford. The trouble with having lived through Ford, is that I've seen this all before. Just substitute world destruction for municipal disorder.

I get the argument that he isn't a politician and maybe that's what the world needs. Totally get that people are fed up with the system and he is something different.
The problem is he is a racist, misogynistic, pathological liar who has empowered the worst of Americans. It blows my mind that any woman voted for him given his track record of abuse and assault. What do parents tell their daughters? It's alright to be abused to men like that? I don't think I need to go any further with this as I'm sure everyone knows what I'm talking about.
Trump may be an idiot but it's Pence that me, they elected someone who doesn't believe in Climate Change and basically wants to strip all rights away from the LBGT community.
Trying to relate this back to Carnivrous Plants, say goodbye to any conservation efforts for Sarracenia. They will cut what is left of that budget and gladly let developers and anyone with money just plow through that last 2% of Sarracenia habitat.

Okay, so I feel as though perhaps it's time for a Yank to weigh in here. For starters, the States are no different today than they were yesterday. There is no additional reason to fear. Our standard gun violence is still in operation, but that's pretty well it. Secondly, yes the vote for Trump is in part a condemnation of our government's current ineffectiveness. But Americans are entrenched. Ask someone on the right is they will vote for a politician on the left, or vice versa to "vote them all out". Nope. Americans' are getting the deadlock they vote for. But that's not what the populist movement that swept Trump into office is all about. It is about a large disenfranchised rural and poor white electorate that feel actively excluded from the future the left wants in a nation they helped build. A multicultural future where despite the disadvantages these people face, they are told their "white privileged" means it would be better if efforts were placed elsewhere to elevate people who visibly add to "diversity". All while their concerns are fears are actively derided by the same people on the left who have built the pedestal they have placed themselves on, based on their compassion for those who are marginalized. I have a longer diatribe, but suffice it to say, G. W. Bush was elected because of the conservative, christian right, but Trump was elected because of the extreme left alienating people they claim they should speak for. So, if you are upset with the those who elected Trump, maybe it is time to think about how you deal with them as the "other". A little more understanding and a little less derision would do a lot for all of us right about now. It's really easy to be all for diversity and freedom of speech when you see and hear what you want. It's much harder to uphold these values when you don't.
