Hola sethmut - There are members here who grow temperate pings, though i don't know if they grow them from seed. I suspect the reason replies might be slow to this questions is that many growers in the temperate areas actually mostly grow Mexican pings. Hopefully someone will know the answer to your question. I am sorry I can't help. Buena suerte!

yes , ping's like a stable substrata to germinate on ,your best bet on most pings is Te-Em peat, mixed with fine sand or fine perlite about 60/40 mix will be ok less or more of each will not matter ,you can mix in a small amount of dolomite as well may help , temperate need some warmth of cause, under lights is good , humidity about 60% or so for germination , the higher altitude plants of cause need cooler conditions, but still germinate under lights as well in same mix , don't get them to hot ! what ever you do, hope the seed is viable, that is probly the highest concern ,from buying over seas just now!! seems a lot of seed going out is sterile or just to old or not even CP seed, ,my advice is buy only from a trusted supplies that you know has good reliable seed ,and others have had success with or some one from a plant society
