Hi amanitovirosa - Well, no matter your original purpose, you've sparked a really interesting conversation. It's provided me food for though. So, thank you!

personally LFS is not a good media to germinate VFT seed or any drosera seed , has many draw backs, , its is i feel good for neps and helis , as you can leave them in the long term , think that's what you need to look at , you can not add much fert to a LFS mix or its goes to much , and u need the right conditions for it or it turns to mush , it is a good one for short term germination in many case , but all ways the draw backs , VFT seed I think should only be germinated on peat and fine sand mix or peat and fine perlite or similar , here you get much better results , only my experience here ,will differ in other climates and grow conditions i'm sure , many will have different experiences and successes or fail's too.
just as a foot note,I think all CP seed benefit from a pre-soak before sowing ,after doing T/c for some time now , I really see its benefits and shorter germination times ,just a observation !

Hi snapperhead51 would you soak them overnight?

Hi Mack I generally do soak all my seed min or 24 hrs up to few days depending on the seed and what needs to be done , just plain water soak 24 to 48 hrs, the reason is to imitate the natural germination of many seed needing water (Rain fall) to start the process in the wild at spring time or there natural germination time . but many AU seed in smoke water or GA3, up to 2 to 3 days works well to ,so depends of the seed as well ceph seed from dry stratification up to 24 to 48 hrs works well in natural germination , hope that helps a bit, just my way of doing it from observations on field trips and expeditions done .

I've been doing a bit of reading on this topic already but it would be cool to hear from people with experience.
I recently purchased a small bale of Long Fiber Sphagnum (it's dead, right?) and I intend to use it to sow Dionea m. seeds I was led to believe that sphagnum will never grow unless it has very specific conditions
Have I been lied to? Can you grow it pretty easily? Will it grow in my container even if I don't want it?
To be honest, I'm just lazy and don't want to deal with washing peat, plus I much prefer the look of LFS.
I guess I didn't read the second page before posting. I'd really like to avoid buying peat but if lfs is so bad for flytrap perhaps I'll have to.
