Hi everyone - I know a few folks out there are growing U. quelchii successfully. I received it recently and it doesn't look great. I've got it with my other epy utrics potted in part LFS part LS. It gets watered every few days and never sits in water. I do pretty well with all the other epi utrics I have including U. campbelliana and U mannii. The temps are about 24 in the day and 12-15 at night. This is my second attempt with it, and I'd love to succeed this time. I feel as though it's getting either too much, or too little water, but I don't honestly know. Any tips? Thanks!

I think U. campbelliana is supposed to be much harder. I had one quelch. for years and it looked cute but not amazing. It eventually gave up and died. My other epi. utrics. seem to do well for years and then peter out. I think there's at least one person in the OCPS who's done well with quelchii-seem to remember a post with pictures.

Hi Apoplast,
I'm growing a quelchii in 3 separate pots. All in New Zealand LFS under 100% humidity.
My biggest plant is in a holed pot and never sit in water. i watered it from time to time. The media never come dry because of the humidity and there's some leave anywhere on the media. This plant is not directly under the T5 but beside the plants growing directly under them.
My other two pots are yogurt plastic pot full of LFS. The water level is one inch below the rim and the quelchii are growing around the rim and not in the center ... Don't know why yet. One of those pots is under the T5 and the old leave turned yellow before the new one grow. I'm going to build a new utric tank soon. There will be 3 spaces. One for quelchii, one for humboltii and one for nelumbifolia. I will unpot one of my quelchii then I will see it's growing patern.

Hi Lloyd - I think the level of difficulty has a lot to do with matching the conditions species prefer. So far (and happily) my campy is growing like mad and looking like it might get weedy. I'm okay with this!
Salut Shogg - Sounds like you are doing much better than I am. It also sounds like they tolerate a fairly wide range of water conditions. I'll try to keep mine on the drier side. It's in a net pot already, but I've been over head watering it nearly every day. Sounds like it might be too much. Thanks for the information! I'm looking forward to seeing shots of the new new tank when it's being built or done! I'll share mine as I mess with it this winter.

I personally just got me a U. campebilliana, no apparent growth yet, but so far I am thankful that i have had decent success with U. quelchii. Honestly I really can't remember the mix. All I know is I top dress with live sphagnum as usual...and I think the plant really likes live sphagnum.

Hi Varun - Yup, yup, I'd call that success. Plus some really incredible photos. That is absolutely fantastic! I've got mine in LS in a net pot. It's starting to look like it might make it. Hopefully, one day I'll be able to post some crappy photos of a plant doing as well as yours.

Hi vraev - Will do on the campy update. I'll try for it this week. It's really nothing impressive yet, plus my photos are not going to be anything like yours. The 6th and 8th photos in that series are almost certainly the most beautiful shots of that species I have ever seen! Redfern has nothing on them. I may have to steal them from your Flicker stream, print them out, frame them, and hang them up as inspiration. Who knows, maybe some day I'll meet you in person and get them signed.

Varun, those photos are spectacular! My plant is nowhere near there, so I'll refrain from giving advice. Haha

Thats too high a praise man. Thank you though. I really appreciate those kind words. Be my guest. Let me know and I can PM you the link to the full size version of those pics if you want them for making a print. Varun, those photos are spectacular! My plant is nowhere near there, so I'll refrain from giving advice. Haha Lol! Nah man. With your setup and your conditions that can make anything thrive....in no time you will get your plant to thrive. It just requires a lot of patience and freedom to roam around. I am glad but I think quelchii is now my weed in all the nepenthes pots. Lol! It is popping up leaves everywhere. But more rampant than U. quelchii is of course, as you would expect, its hybrid with pratermissa... U. x jitka Beautiful U. x jitka flower by Varun Anipindi, on Flickr
