Hey everyone, I don't usually share much personal stuff but thought I would share this as it's CP related They chose the only hybrid picture of course (out of some epic flava and other nice species) but I guess that's what many people like. Hope people like it. haliburtonecho.ca/?p=15959Justin

Hi Justin - Thanks for sharing a very personal story. I too came to botany from my original love of herpetology. I fell for plants when I realized how much more diversity I could keep with far less effort.
And seriously, why do so many people immediately key in on hybrids?! It's a solid question you ask.

What a great article. Well-deserved, Justin!
Apoplast - I guess the hybrids can be more flashy and people don't realize what an achievement it is to get plants as healthy as Justin's. I went from frogs to fish to plants in a progression of easier and easier husbandry.

Thanks everyone! bonfield, glad I could help bring back the memories, before this article I sorta forgot how awesome botanizing was back in Ontario. bcmosaic, please do come visit! Thanks Maiden, your post made me laugh! I seasmoke, it is a pretty good job, I really need to post pictures for people. WillyCKH, it is pretty rewarding walking into the greenhouse and seeing everything. Although lately I've been walking in and dreading repotting everything this winter :S Apoplast, it seems like herpetology attracts a similar base of people and many who collect one have an interest in the other. hal I agree, although I still have frogs I do find that they are so much more work then keeping CP's (any they aren't any work compared to other reptiles and amphibians) As for hybrids we should start a thread on that and discuss that, it is something I'm rather interested in.

Also I don't think that link will work anymore, I'm working to get a link to the actual article now.

Hi H2O - I suspect the instant appeal of hybrids has to do with the fact we ("we" sensu lato - people) are selecting the clones that are most appealing looking to us, and it works. We are effective at selecting characteristics that please us. This suggests that despite differences in taste between individuals, there is something fundamental in our general aesthetic. But yes, it's topic for another thread.
