I really like this thread especially as I'm starting to get enamoured with Pings! Got 2 so far - P. agnata and a P. rotundifolia and it pushed out another flower. The P. rotundifolia is in a peat/sand mixture (got it from HB). The first bottom leaves whose tips are touching the soli are now developing tiny plantlets and the P. agnata is in a coarser mix (got it from Willy). Both are under T5s, 16hrs/day. Hal - You say you have an allergic reaction to fdbw. Is it the same with frozen blood worms? I use frozen blood worms (thaw in ro/di water) for all my Droseras and they go nuts over it. I will try some on my Pings to see how they react. I'll keep you all posted Cheers

Dried ones are dusty and worse for allergies but any are likely to cause allergies.
Mosquitoes inject saliva into you so anybody will be allergic to local mosquitoes and their larvae.

FDBW = freeze dried blood worms. I ground them against my wooden potting bench with the side of a knife and I guess some got airborne. I was sneezing and my eyes were watery and itching for an hour. I get the same from peeling shrimp. Maybe I am allergic to chitin.
I used to use frozen bloodworms all the time for my African cichlids and never had a reaction. They'd probably be more easily digested by the plants, too. Maybe I'll get some.

I agree bcmosaic it's not hard to be enamoured with Pings P. rotundifolia is one of my all time favorite pings, unfortunately this ping is no longer in NZ

I've not been able to pollinate it yet ... I'll try harder next time and keep you in memory if it works.

Isn't the Ping rotundiflora, while the Drosera is rotundifolia? I always get them confused but if you remember that the ping has a round flower and the drosera has round leaves, it helps.

Although I grow most of my Mexi-pings in an all mineral media mix, some mexi-pings actually will do better with a more acidic media component added to the mix, something as simple as peat moss. Here is a mother P. moranensis growing in an all mineral mix. It seems happy enough in its four inch pot, but compare it with some of its leaf pulled clones growing in a peatier media mix... ...these are bursting at the seams to be repotted. It's easy enough to fall into the trap of the blanket all-in-one media mix for all mexi-pings... ...but once you get past that, you'll find that it's both fun and educational to keep experimenting. dvg How did I miss this post! Amazing stuff DVG, I've been debating on adding a part of two peat to my mix for a few species, have you found any species that don't like this? I keep hearing the larger leaved species like it the most.

Ping in a pot of perlite and 2 parts peat. A pretty pink Ping 'Pirouette' in a perfect pot of perlite and 2 parts pure peat?
