How often do you recommend to repot? I have a VFT that is doing fantastic but is in a small 2" pot. Not sure how to post pics.

2 inch pot? get it into a larger pot as soon as you can so it don't get root bound) I got mine in a 5 inch pot I was told nothing will do well in such a small pot when you replant leave it alone for a few days to de-stress from being moved
I was told as a general rule the soil should be done once a year during dormancy is best just before it wakes from its dormancy repotting can be done anytime just remember the plant will be stressed and need time to adjust mine came in a 2 inch pot of LFS and I did not find out a 2 inch pot is no good for growing and I lost it and bought VFT seeds online. be careful doing the repotting that you don't hurt the roots, if its in a 2 inch pot chances are its still a young plant if you don't wanna take the chance and risk hurting the roots there is something you can do....unpot the plant from the 2 inch pot an put the whole lump of soil in the new pot with the new soil and water it!!!(Make sure the old and new soil are level) that way the roots are not disturbed and plant gets a larger pot and best of all no stress plus no root bound because now the roots have more room to grow. Are you using a tray under the pot??
How many mouths does it have??

Hi, I can't seem to post any pics, so I just changed my profile pic to show one of the plants. It has lots of mouths. I bought 2 plants 3-4 months ago and they both seem to be doing very well. Yes, I have them in trays and watering from the bottom up. I didn't know if it was better to re-pot prior to winter or early in spring? I've been reading about the picky medium needs and just worried about doing more harm than good...

I had a 2" VFT pot that was planted in 100% live sphagnum moss. I repotted it TODAY into 50/50 perlite and sphagnum peat moss
I also have a question: is it okay to have about an inch of live sphagnum moss on top of the 50/50 perlite and sphagnum peat moss? (I didn't know what to do with the sphagnum moss so I just added it on top)

...he tree, try this. Take that plant out of the pot without disturbing the roots. Looking at the size of it, the whole pot is full of roots so it should just pop out. Prepare a larger pot, pack down your media a bit and put the small 2" pot in. Centre the plant, not the pot. Place the 2" pot accordingly in height in the new pot. New media level should be roughly same as media in the small pot. Pack media around the small pot, remove the pot and gently drop your plant in the hole. Top water the media with a turkey baster, not the plant. I've done this hundreds of times, your Flytrap shouldn't miss a beat. Happy Growing.

Great - thanks! What is your preferred media mix?

The standard mix is what we call 50/50 mix, it's one part sphagnum peat and one part silica sand or perlite.
You can vary the mix a lot though to get different results. Anything from 100% peat up to 50/50 should work. I've tried making a mix with 1:3 peat:sand but it was far too sandy for a VFT.
Additionally there is LFS(Long Fiber Sphagnum). You can use this by itself, or to replace the peat in the above mix, or in addition to the peat and sand.

Great - thanks! What is your preferred media mix? ...I use 2/1, peat/sand. I've had pretty good success with this mix. It probably would've been 1/1 but in the 2/1 mix I don't have to wash as much sand! Honestly, I don't think media is all important, as long as you're close. I think it's all of the other factors that determine the plants healthiness and vigour. Just my opinion though. Cheers.

I never agree with amanitoviosa but here I do thats the ideal mix I used aquarium gravel over sand and the plants were fine the proportions as far as I know never harmed or killed plants just steer clear of additives in perlite and never use ANY fertilizer powder or liquid As a matter of fact right now I am germinating Venus Flytrap seeds in Sphagnum peat moss and aquarium gravel mix 50/50 and so far had 1 seed sprout!!

Truthfully, I don't think you're in any position to be giving advice here. I joined the forum almost two years ago (Feb) and in that time most of your posts have consisted of: asking for VFT seed and looking for VFT seed. In almost two years time, if you haven't been able to successfully grow a healthy Dionaea Muscipula plant from seed to adulthood you shouldn't be giving advice to others.
