Hey y'all,
I have a friend from New Zealand who is coming over the visit. He will be in Canada for about 10 days. He and I planning to get together for 3 of those days, and he has committments for a 2 or 3 others. However, he is open to meet up with any CP growers in Southern Ontario or even as far away as montreal.
Asside from seeing CP and the like, he also wants to see some of the sites, he's never been to Canada, and would enjoy driving around to see people.
If anyone interested in meeting up with him and showing off your collections, or just talking plants. Please drop me an email in the next couple of weeks. I will forward his email address to you and you can make arrangements.
Part of his mission while he's here is get some seed for the New Zealand CP society. If anyone has any spare seed that they are willing to donate to his cause, that would be great as well. For that I'd operate as the contact. He will be visiting me July 22, -24 I think, I'll have to check, but if seed could be sent to be here before he comes, I'll make sure he gets it!
Thanks in advance for anyone who is willing to meet with him, share some seed.
Best Purpman

Well, that would be kinda cool, I would say, I will save up any extra Drosera seeds I end up with that I haven't already promised away...
I would be glad to show off my collection too, and talk some plants with someone from the opposite side of the planet, sounds like a good deal!!

I PM'ed you about this, could be very interesting if your friend is ready to go as far as Quebec city (3h from Montreal). Another CPers is coming by in the same dates, so perhaps we could set something...

You're more than welcome to drop by my place in Kitchener and see my humble little bog garden. There's always a few cold beers hanging around too.
If I can remember where the Drumbo bog is, we could visit that one. We visited it a long time ago with our local orchid society and I remember it being full of Drosera rotundifolia and S. purpurea purpurea, as well as tons of native orchids.
Another possibility that he might find interesting and I am sure that many people have never seen (it shocked me too) was on my cousin's cottage property at Petrel Point. There is a small colony of S. purpurea growing where his lawn meets the edge of a cedar thicket. In the summer, the soil is bone dry and hard (the roots must be hitting deep water), the pitchers are miniature, many being no more than an 1.0 to 1.5 inches in length. To top if off, these plants flower too!
Too bad this visit wasn't a couple of weeks earlier, Mr. Olivier Marthaler from Switzerland is coming down to visit.
Let me know if and when and I'll make sure I'm there if possible.
It's always nice to visit with people and talk CP.

Hey guys, thanks so much for the replies. I'm going to let you all email him directly and arrange dates and times for him to drop by.
I'll be taking him out to see Niagara Falls, and area, as well as a whirl wind bog trip up to the bruce and and a couple of spots along the way.
Tom, maybe he'd like to take you up on a visit out your way. Please drop him a line, I'm sure he'd be happy to come out there. (A good opportunity to see some sights, the beauty of Quebec city and area as well as some bogs!!!)
Rick, I'll be going up to petrel point, there are some huge fens up there! Lots of nice stuff for him to see, thanks. You're also not that far away, so he may swing by for a visit. Again, drop him a line and maybe you can arrange something with him. If you want to him to drumbo or some other bogs, I'm sure he'd be thrilled.
Carl, I'm sure we can drop by your place for a visit. I think he said he was visiting someone in St. Catharines anyway, so maybe drop him an email, and coordinate the times with him! Ross.TAYLOR@corrections.govt.nz
As you see, his name is Ross.
Thanks guys for all your help.
OH as for seeds, I'm sure y'all can arrange with him to send them to him personally when the ready in the fall or to give him any thing you have if/when you meet up with him.
Thanks again
Purpman
