How to save on shipping charges to Canada (and the rest of the world)
Buying direct from Redfern is great but their shipping charges are killers! Especially to Canada.
If you buy the books through Natural History Book Society NHBS the shipping charges are a fraction of what Redfern charges.
Also, you can take advantage of the prepublication discounts for forthcoming Redfern titles.
The recent 3 volume work by Alan Lowrie ordered through NHBS was about the same shipping cost (maybe a bit less - if memory serves me right) than one book's shipping cost from Redfern. For those of you who have these three volumes - you can appreciate how heavy they are so it was a great deal to save that on the shipping.
For the forthcoming Drosera and Pinguicula books the cost of shipping via NHBS was the cost of one book shipping charges from Redfern also. Now that may have changes as I pre-order these almost 1.5 years ago now but a great deal none-the-less.
Does anyone know if there is a firmer publication date for the new set of books coming out?

...I was just looking through my Redfern Flytrap book. In the acknowledgements, it states that Carl Mazur was involved in editing all chapters of the book! I had no idea! I met Carl last summer and got a ton of Sarracenia from him, he didn't mention anything to me about being famous.
It was a lot of fun talking to Carl while he was editing that book. I don't think people realize how much Carl has done for the Sarracenia world. He has introduced some of the most famous location without people realizing their plants are because of him. It's a huge thing having Carl in Canada.
The dollar is gonna kill me on this one also. I had pre-ordered them from The above NHBS place about 2 years ago now - when our dollar was worth close to a dollar... However, their policy is no payment until book is published. The only real advantage in buying them there is the fact that shipping is only about 10 pounds or so instead of buying direct from redfern who charges about 15 pounds or so per book. I preordered the ping and drosera 5 book combo for about 160 pounds including shipping. Now I just have to sell my kidney to pay for it (given the exchange rate...).
