The thing to realize is that almost any set up will grow some plants for some time in good health. The more difficult the plant and the longer you want to keep them (in good health) determines how much work you do. I'm a middle of the roader: everybody I know thinks I'm crazy to go to so much trouble for my vegetable buddies but I'm not any way as hard core as lots of other people in the OCPS (except maybe about TC). So just build the set-up you want and see how it goes, adjusting the plants to the set-up or visa-versa and see what happens. Of course if you buy more expensive plants you want to take more care matching the set-up to the plant. I would go for T5HO's. I think right now they're the best way to go. Good to have you back. Oh Llyod, how can I forget you Lol. You were the first person to send me seeds and forever I shall be grateful at the kind gesture *curtsey* Guess what? So last week Friday at work, our building maintenance guys were replacing our lights in our room and they were throwing out the "samples" so I asked if I may and lo and behold! I got 2 lights from them But am unsure of whether they are the correct ones Lol. I depend on the pros here like you and everyone else And I totally agree with you regarding the longer you keep them, the healthier they become, depending on the time and resources invested. I myself a vegetable patch too among other types of plants, my neighbors wonder sometimes and I have to reassure them, "No no, they're umm, tomatoes, you know as in making pasta sauces"...and then they leave me alone... *whew*... Kidding LOL, but I know I go overboard too but there are some mad geniuses here too and it's always a pleasure seeing what they come up with. Maybe one day I can master the art of TC like you and a few Farya <------- N00b right here Anyway, I'm gonna post pics shortly of all the plants which I had and the 2 lights. Anyone, including yourself, please provide any advice on the lights and it would be greatly appreciated

Nice plants! I love to see Sphagnum moss grow, they are just great! We can definitely trade in the future, I collect Droseras and different kind of moss mostly. The two lights look like fixture of 48 SMD-LEDs each that replaces Flurescent tube lights (great for workplace to save electricity!). If you take some picture on the LED diodes I can probably guess which one it is; but by just looking at these two pictures, they look like smd3528/5050 to me. If it is really 19W (most products have lower output than what they claim) of LED 4000k and 6000K, they are pretty good if you put both of them ~2 inch from your plants. These two won't be putting out enough light for your whole setup though, I guess you can use them for smaller plants or seedlings aside from Terrarium, or in combination of other lights on top of your Terrarium.

Anyway I took some more pics of the lights which I uploaded their pics AND I got 4 more although the additional 4 I don't think I will be able to use. Here are pics of them and one more thing: THANKS a bunch for your help You guys are all super, duper, ubber awesome .

The fluorescent bulbs are OK, T8's? 3500K is a bit red though. 5000 or 6000K is better.

I can't post pictures here unfortunately. Neither image shack or photo bucket like me. The spider made his own way in there. I'm pretty sure he could climb out on the silicone corners, but he seems happy to stay put for now. He hasn't been named yet. My terrarium is still pretty bare. Only 4 pots in it. I'm planning to add some more once I pot my nep cutting. Maybe move one of my cephs in there as well. It pales in comparison to most of the amazing terrariums I've seen on here, but it's a start.

Those LEDs look like smd3528 (pure white and warm white), those are 0.08watts each. 136 of them (estimated from your pics) would be ~11watts in total each, given that the manufacturer isn't under/over driving them. Those are good lights for us to see, but might not be bright enough for plants unless put very close.

Hey Vraev, I checked threads about your tanks and holly molly, you got a real nice setup dude!! You and a few others here really go overboard and it's AWESOME! Damn, you are good. I wish I had the skills and patience that you do Lol. I decided not to get the humidifier; with the right conditions, like you mentioned above, I don't think it will be necessary, at least not right now. Too bad about your humidifier from the States - who told you to put something as fragile as that in your checking in baggage Lol That's alright though, we all learn from out mistakes I'm gonna try to upload a few of my CP pictures that I had back then; I miss them :_( I can't wait until I get everything ready....so excited and happy and all that mushy stuff Lol. By the way, nice FB pictures of your plants and stuff; you make me jelly with envy ROFL! Haha! Well...it wouldn't be an issue if it was just the right humidifier. I forgot checking for the "ultrasonic" on the box. So literally, this thing was a motor that circulates water from the top exposed to a fan that will basically use "vapour pressure" to evaporate air and make a very natural humidified environment. Unfortunately, it isn't sufficient for our plants at this scale as it cannot be "directed" into a certain area. thanks for all the nice comments. Always keep in mind that things don't necessarily happen overnight and it takes time to get/reach the milestones you want. Just be patient and u will eventually get where you want. Also, things are never the same. There is an ebb and flow and sometimes there may be major issues. You just have to take it steady and take life as it comes...integrate the CPs without overloading your capability.

Hey guys, I am new to this forums I was wondering what kind of light that is cheap but effective for my new VFT? Welcome to the forum. I'd use a 4' double T8 from Home Depot. $20 for the fixture and $3 or 4 per bulb. Or if you only have one plant, a little clip lamp with a reflector and the highest wattage coiled CFL you can find. Plus as much natural light as possible. A critical ingredient for long term-viability of VFTs is to put them through a dormancy in the winter.

Will venus fly traps grow long term under lights like that? Yes, if they have dormancy. But they are much happier outside with the rain, sun & bugs.
