...Hey guys and gals, what timers do you guys use for your setups? The ones I have are starting to malfunction, they turn on, they don't, digital and mechanical. They are just your cheap home depot timers bought on sale during Christmas light season for $13 (they have 3 outs), I bought 3. Like I said, they are starting to crap out, any suggestions for good, RELIABLE timers? I am just running a bunch of HO T5 lights. Thanks.

I find the mechanical kinds never die. The ones with the little deelies you push in/pull out or snap in place to set the time. For a few bucks more the electronic ones that can imitate natural day-length and daylight savings also seem to go on and on.

...Thanks for your reply Lloyd, unfortunately those are the ones I've been using. The mechanical one, from Lee Valley ($35) and the electronic, cheap ones are not doing what they are supposed to do. Looks like eBay it is......

I have two Intramatic Heavy Duty timers with the rotating dial and the red and green pins to set the time. I guess they are 20 years old or so. Maybe they don't make 'em like they used to.

Wow they certainly don't! None of the cheap mechanical timers I've used have ever lasted me more than 2-3 years. I converted to digital about 9 months ago and no problems so, but only time will tell.

...thanks to all. Hal, if I saw a 20 year old timer anywhere I'd buy it in a second! They definitely don't make anything like they used to. It's all disposable crap now days, everything! Cheers.

Home Depot still had the sturdy metal, mechanical ones when I checked a few years back.

...not any more. I think I have to look at some commercial equipment, might find something more reliable. Thanks.
