Sometimes one of my larger cephs will have a backslide and get brown and ugly.....so I just cut it back....like this on 20DEC14- Then wait for them to come back.....slowly....24JAN15...

I think the backslides are the time of year... Mine always seem to set back this time of year for some reason. If it was growing well prior I would just be patient. If it's been in the same pot for an extended period of time or made massive size jumps it may need a repot.
If I don't repot mine every couple years they get very fussy

...nice, two months after the 'mowing'. Maybe this is a better way than burning them like I did, and a lot less work! I'm thinking though that the root system has to be very well established in order for this method to be successful. How long was your Ceph in that pot before you cut it down?

...yeah, so that pot is probably full of roots and basically the whole thing is just one big growth point. Nice, my Cephs still have a long way to go.

that's great to see, is also what happens in a lot of the wild sits to , ,in some places where undergrowth has taken over the site , the cephs revert back to just some small leaf or even less and can stay like that for many years till a fire comes along clears the area and up they come just like this
