Unfortunately we have to use an alternate photo hosting site from now on, like photobucket or Flickr. We've used up our entire upload limit, at least what you get for free. There is a decent photobucket app that you can upload right from you phone, but you'll have to copy and paste the URL's.

...Good question Francois. If it is not an exuberant amount I'd pitch in. I'm not really a big fan of these photo hosting sites.

I've looked into storage pricing. We have the "Free" plan that covers 200mb. From there it is a MONTHLY cost. 500mb - $3 800mb - $6 1200mb - $9 1600mb - $12.6 2000mb - $14.40 4000mb - $40.30 10000mb - $73.5 The problem that I see for the future is that once we accumulate another 6-7 years worth of photos we'll be paying more and more a month. Even though our costs will go up I doubt we will have that many more members to cover those costs. This forum has more of a rotating base of people compared to a forum that accumulate more and more people. It would be a bummer to get stuck with the costs if the donating members ever dropped out.
That being said I am willing to go down this road if there is enough positive response. Over the past few years there has been a lot of behind the scenes talks about moving to a paid platform and the forum would be ours to own and upgrade as we please. As of right now pro boards owns our forum and we can never leave them, if we did we would be starting from scratch and we couldn't take our threads with us. This used to be more of an issue when syble was MIA and we had no access to forum features or editing tools. Syble was kind enough to give me permission to take the forum over so we now have all of these options.
This might also be a good time to bring up some other changes we've been talking about in the background. One thing we've been discussing is changing our name, something some people really want, others don't want and there are those that really don't care. We would like to change our name to something more inclusive for all of Canada and not just Ontario. This is something I will start a dedicated thread for if people would like to talk about options for names. Changing our name is actually very easy in terms of pro board options, the one big thing that we have never found a solid answer for concerns that URL. We can pay a one time cost to change our URL from ocps to our new name, the catch is that pro boards only leaves a redirect for two week. So if you have a bookmark and you didn't check it for two week you might have a hard time finding the forum again. We can always change it well after changing our name to give people a heads up but it is something to consider.
If anyone has any other questions or comments on how was can make our forum even better, please let us know!

I find the photosharing sites pretty easy to use and I don't think the extra money is worth it. I never even realized we could use Proboards photo sharing. If possible, we could erase older images, if people wished, to open up memory. However it doesn't take a lot of pictures to use up 200 mb. I don't mind the present name although I am living in Ontario. I can see other people not liking it, though. We tried to move the forum to a different site and ended up moving it back, so I'm not too sure we should try that again. Thanks for doing some thinking about this.

I don't mind the present name although I am living in Ontario. Typical "I'm from the most important province look at me" attitude. Joking aside, image sites are ridiculously easy to use and show up better then the ones using ProBoard's service.

I was not aware that it was possible to upload images directly here. Other Proboard forums I have been a part of in the past have always their members to use a third party image hosting site to share images, and that is the only reason I have those accounts.
I agree with Lloyd in that I don't think the extra money is worth it. My main concern is what H2O has brought up: that there is a rotating membership and people will not be here indefinitely which means donations may drop.
As for renaming, I personally don't think we need to for the following reasons:
1. I just don't think it's necessary, especially since we do not publish society proceedings or hold annual meetings.
2. I have seen our forum referenced by some other forums as OCPS so it may cause confusion when people try to look this forum up.
3. With regard to locality: a lot of academic societies and their journals have a localized name (ie. American Society for Horticultural Science, New England Journal or Medicine, etc.) that reflect their founding but membership and participation is not restricted to that people from that particular region. I feel the Ontario in OCPS is similar and we certainly do not turn people away who are not from Ontario.

My attitude is "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Photo sharing sites are plentiful and free. If we filled 200mb that quickly then in a few years the overage fees will be considerable. I wouldn't feel comfortable with someone, or a small group of members, paying what could be in excess of $100 a year when it's not really necessary.

...'nuff said, Flickr it is. I don't really think we need a name change either, no offense to members not living in Ontario.

Namechanges is just a stupid idea when storage fills again then what?, a new name everytime storage gets filled? why not give members their own upload limits?? makes the same sense. The name change and the storage are two different issues - there's no connection between upgrading storage and having to change the name. It's not possible to allocate members their own storage limits.

I was saying renaming the site to gain storage makes as much sense as assigning members storage limits

The name has absolutely nothing to do with storage. Apples and Oranges. One does not affect the other.

So lets see if I got this making a database of members, import it into a new site for CP's with a new name that was created making it like a new site and requesting a storage for members still would not treat it like a new site??

..... No.
The name change is literally just changing our name in the front of the board and referring to the forum with the new name. Nothing to do with storage.
