That's such a bummer guys, Carl keeps posting forecasts on FB every week and it's the same thing over and over. Cold, cold and more cold. Anyone that gets plants from me this spring will have a jump on the rest of their plants haha

Hi Justin - Nice blog! It's good to see what you are up to. I didn't know you made butterfly jewelry. I should have brought some back from my recent trip to So. America to send for some custom work. Side note: I am suspicious that as an administrator of this site, you may have increased your number of posts artificially. You are certainly involved, but almost 4.3 million posts seems... Unlikely.

That's 4.3 billion which is entirely believable.

We were originally going to visit my parents in Quallicum Beach at the end of May. But they are moving to a new house, somewhere on the island, TBA, so we are waiting until August.

Took my plants out too early and all of them froze solid :/ . Hopefully I didn't lose everything - the flytraps are mushy and a few sarracenia got mouldy. Fortunately though, I had a very good germination rate for all the seeds I bought from purpman (Carl).

I've clipped back my sarr's way more than usual. Plus lots of rhizome rot is showing up. I've dug up and thrown out lots of rhizomes. Moved some healthy ones around to fill the holes. VFT's/pings/Dews nothing but debris. This winter has been a doozy. The months long serious freeze was just too much. Everything was frozen solid for ~2 months straight (-5->-8C) in the garage. There are some flowers coming. I'm expecting more rhizomes to show dieback and rot over the next few weeks. Fingers crossed!

I'm not sure what the pot I put in the garage will bring this year. I cut everything right back and will hope for the best. Two nice purps, a Dana's Delight and some flavas in there. By now the purps would normally be sending up new sprouts and the the flavas som phyllodia, but nothing yet. As for the plants I kept in the fridge, one flava turned to mush and all the purps went moldy but I'm hoping a few will pull through. I rinsed them in No Damp, sprinkled on a little Benomyl and have the crowns exposed to the sun. The Scarlet Belle, oreophila, minor and a couple more flavas all look marvelous, almost as good as they did at the end of the summer last year.
And my gunnera experiment was a flop. It's just mush. Guess I need to move to the UK if I want to grow them.
