After my vacation I noticed my sphagnum moss top dressing for my nepenthes and some Sundews look pretty sad. Some turned a light brown, others are on the yellowish side and some have blackened tips. I couldn't find much information on dying sphagnum, so if anybody knows what's happening and how to fix it, that would be great.

It gets that way sometimes. I just chop it back with scissors and let it grow again.

I find I get black tips if there is salt buildup in the media, or if the pot is too close to the light. Chop it down and it will regrow. I only get the black tip problem with green sphagnum. I've never gotten it with red sphagnum. Perhaps the black tip only affects a certain species?

My moss .... Some of it...has gone yellow as well. Generally happens if it goes through one too many dry and wet periods. As mentioned here...nothing other than fresh growth will help. Sometimes if the issue is due to acidity, pouring peat tea or something like that will help acidify the media and probably help the sphagnum, never tried this but probably I should as well.
