Very nice work indeed on your first DIY Varun. That bracket suspending your fixture looks professionally done. Not sure if I can tell from your pic, but were you able to find a square shaped piece of plastic to cover the open end of the aluminum channel.... If not, those black channel plugs/end caps may be available at a hardware or furniture supplies shop. Aside from that, that's a very slick looking setup. dvg

I appreciate that you guys like it as much as I do. Good to know. I honestly didn't know they sell those cap ends. I figured I would just either 1) spray foam, cut, sand and paint black or 2) use black electrical tape to cover up the end.

I know those end caps are definitely available.
A lot of weight equipment composed of steel tubular channel will have the plastic end caps to finish off the appearance.
Check with the place where you bought the channel and ask if they carry the end caps.
You will need the inside diameter of the channel.

Very nice. Looks like a high quality lighting setup. I'm curious to see how the plants grow under it.

Very nice. Looks like a high quality lighting setup. I'm curious to see how the plants grow under it. yup! me too. But if their reputation is anything to go by...it should definitely be a positive change. Although, still curious upon how effective it will be for our light hungry plants. NOTHING..and absolutely NOTHING in the planted aquarium world comes close to the light hungry nature of CPs and the light they require to colour up well. We literally need supernovas to get those blood red heliamphora/cephalotus coloration.

Pfff take that strip out and put a sundew lol Haha! Yup! I used to have many many sundews..but lost all of them years ago. Need to get back some of my favourites...dwarf sundews and perhaps an opportunity to try D. brumanii. Always loved its cute beautiful rosette. Maybe once I am back from my vacation trip.

Nice! Can't wait to see more. Too bad about the orchids burning out. Perhaps it's a lighting/temperature issue? My understanding is that the brighter the light, the cooler it should be- or at least that's what I've heard as far as Dracula/Masdevallia orchids go, not sure if the same would apply to Lepanthes. You are getting some awesome colouring though! Have you been fertilizing at all? That Nepenthes burbidgeae is beautiful.

Thanks Avery. Can't really say much about temperature. No thermometer and no idea at all. I know it is supposed to be no higher than 21C as that is what the house is set at. No fertilizing for over an year. Just starting at it again....its been over an year since I tried it. I got some orchid fert pellets from the orchid show, but it actually killed two recovering lepanthes on a mount. So I am going back to old spray ferts. Hopefully the orchids can come back. Here is the N. burbidgeae x edwardsiana recovering pretty well. I might have a basal for it too.

Well that's not high at all. Hmmm... I wish I could help. If you want I could send you a little bag of Maxsea. It's supposed to be pretty safe.

Everything is looking amazing!
I would have to advise putting your Lepanthes into the darkest part of your setup. Although they like similar temps as Neps, they do not like the light! Out of all the Pleurothallids I've grown Lepanthes hate bright light the most. Hopefully lowering the light will help solve your problem!
