Just ground up a big batch of FD bloodworms and have been sneezing for a half an hour. I've had itchy eyes before too. Thought I could manage it by making sure I didn't touch the stuff but that's not worked out so well. Aaaaachoooo! So I'm going to stop using them.
I also have dried crickets but I'm on the fence about them. I grind them up and it just seems to be the shell of the insect with a bit of white stuff in the head, and I'm not sure how nutritious ground chitin might be.
What's a good alternative?
Oh, and free bloodworms, for pick-up only.

I have the same problem with DBW. I think you have to grind them up wet to avoid the dust in the air.

I've been crushing them in a small plastic baggie. Just try to get most of the air out before you seal it - gently like so it don't pop.
I am trying some other freeze dried critters, daphinia and mysis. They came in a packet that also had some DBW. The daphinia have hard shells so I use them mostly on the Helis. They leave residue in the VFTs. I think I got it at Menagerie pet store on Parliament. Let me know if you want me to grab some for you. Comes in a package about the size of a hockey puck.

I've just been lightly misting with minimum strength orchid fertilizer and diluting it with at least four times as many mistings with just water.

So are you saying mist with fertilizer one day, then 4 days of plain water? Or do you mist with fertilizer, wait a minute, then mist with water a few times?

...lately I've been using ant larvae. Go in the backyard, flip over a rock and voila!!! It's a fight with the ants as I'm stealing their brood, they are soo protective, it's really amazing, almost like a tug of war! Anyways my Sundews, Cephs, and VFT's really seem to be enjoying them. I haven't tried freezing them yet, but I'm sure it would work for later use. Cheers!

I give the plants a light misting using the sprayer's finest setting from a few feet above to allow for dispersal, and a few seconds later I repeat 3-4 times with the water.
I don't know the ppm, I've never tested it. It's Schultz orchid fertilizer mixed at minimum strength.

U notice a increase of growth with the mist only being on there for seconds and rinsed off with plain water?

I have great results using this method, most of my CPs flower when they're fed this way. The purpose of the subsequent water misting isn't to rinse anything off, but to further dilute the fertilizer. There should only be enough to gently coat the leaf and dew surface.

I just found it tedious to have to prepare different strengths of the same fertilizer, so I started trying this with a few plants. It's saved quite a bit of time and space for me, and even my Helis like it.
