Hi all - So, I am not a super big orchid fan, though the efforts of some around here are starting to counter that (my wallet does not thank you). Still, I was pleasantly surprised to step out into the yard yesterday and find this growing next to my driveway: I moved into this place last year, partially accounting for my near absence here, but was overwhelmed with fixing the place to be livable. Consequently I never noticed this beauty last summer. I think it's a Cypripedium parviflorum, which because they are fairly easy to culture means someone probably planted it there. Regardless, I was pretty stoaked to see it. Thanks for looking.

I have two of these in my back yard that are flowering now. I planted them about 2 years ago-this is their third time flowering for me.

Hi Amanitovirosa - Thanks! Don't worry, most of what we inherited in this yard are noxious weeds. It's part of what made the orchid such a nice surprise.
Hi Lloyd - Sounds like you have some reliable plants there. I think I am going to have to transplant these at some point. They are next to the driveway right where the hill is slumping down onto it. I'll probably have the put a small half meter high retaining wall right through where this plant is growing now. I sure hope I don't lose it when that happens.

I think if you really dig all around it and get all the roots it should be fine. If possible wait until it all the leaves die back-just make a marker so you'll know where to dig.
