Looking superb H20, flava army!
Bonfield: Yes, every year I definitely like to try to pick a couple of plants that I think might make interesting hybrids, or cross pollinate nice plants of the same species. Last year I hand pollinated the ovules/ovary of ((S. psitaccinia x S. flava) x S. rubra ssp. wherryi antho-free) with pollen from S. purpurea ssp. venosa var. montana, Transylvania, NC. The pollination was successful, seeds developed, ripened, and they have now started to germinate over the last week. It can be tricky getting the timing right for flowering though, I think I had to put the montana in a grow box with 24 lights and the AF (pst x flava) x rubra hybrid in complete shade for a few days in order to get contemporaneous blooms. I suppose I could try freezing pollen etc.
I was going to take a pole to see what OCPS members thought would be the most interesting hybrid/cross from amongst my buds, try to hand pollinate the winning combination, and give the seeds away for a SASE in the fall. But I think it probably won't work as most of these flowers won't necessarily bloom at the same time.
Thanks for the kind words.

Can you smell any cat pee yet? The second last shot is pretty cool. Neat perspective.

The smell of cat pee has subsided, replaced with the sweet smell of S. rubra ssp. jonesii flowers. Pics from the last few days. S. flava var. ornata. Pender Co, NC.
S. purpurea ssp. venosa 'all red' x S. oreophila 'Sand Mountain' S. purpurea ssp. venosa var. montanaTransylvania, NC. S. 'Judith Hindle' evening day S. oreophila 'Sand Mountain' Sarracenia flava var. rugelli Ware CO, GA. S. leucophllya Baldwin CO, FL. Unknown hybrid Late bloomer, a twisted S. And to end this installment not a bud, a flower, or even a Sarracenia. Well at least it's in the Sarraceniaceae. It's been awhile. Here are a few late season pics. One of my favorite plants ( S. purpurea ssp. venosa var. montana
Transylvania, NC) decided that late August would be a good time to produce a second flower bud. S. flava var. ornata. Pender Co, NC. Burn out S. rubra ssp. jonesiiS. purpurea ssp. venosa
