Dennis - I got the metal shelving units from our office. We merged with an interior design firm a few years ago and they had dozens of them for sample catalogues. I've seen them at Home Depot recently, about $100 for a 5' section. Chrome or black. If I was starting fresh I'd get black. The chrome rusts after a while.
Thanks, ng, I love arums. The smellier the better. I have lots of Sauromatum venosum bulbs that I bring in every year and they can keep them company.
I shall post some updated photos soon. I now have Tillandsias and Cacti and 10 pots of Mesemb seeds going in the room. Probably time to bring the tropical orchids and rex begonias in from outside, too. The dendrobiums and succulents are going to stay out for a bit of a chill.

Thanks, I was thinking of getting one this week.
Speaking of corpse flowers, how do you guys get the seeds to germinate? I've had no luck with ammorphophallus seeds. I should probably stick to buying bulbs.

I've never grown seeds. I started with one sauromatum bulb and they throw off dozens of little pups every year. If you grow them on they get fist-sized in 3 or 4 years. This year my big plants were a good 3-4 feet high. Made the patio look like a jungle.
If you want some bulbs, remind me later in the fall when I dig them up and bring them in to dry out.

Ng- Lol, ain't nobody got time for that.
Hal- Thanks for the offer! I'll remind you and maybe we can do a trade or something. Do you like hurenia cacti? I got all my cuttings to root.

Yup! Great grow room Hal. Definitely beats trying to contain everything to a single tank. A nice place to escape to after a long day of work.

I brought in all the tender plants today and filled up my indoor grow space. Here's a few shots from my phone. Top shelf: Small phals, dendrobiums and mini oncidiums Middle shelf: sundew seedlings, new stretocarpellas, pings Bottom shelf: succulents Larger orchids and tillandsias. 2 trays of succulent cutting below. Hmm, I see room for more plants! That's OK, I have a couple of planters of succulents to move in yet... Upper shelf: First tank-terrarium creepers, neps and restrepias Big ceph, big neps and a couple of succulents Small tank - pleurothallids and small paphs Lower shelf: Utrics and helis in the dome 10 pots of lithops seedlings And another look at the succulents, which did very well this year. That's a rex begonia "Cowardly Lion" on the right and I have about 10 more on that shelf. Need to get some lights for it! VFTs and sarrs are still outside. I'll move them into the garage/fridge in a few weeks. My small cactus collection and a big Chilean ephedra from Lloyd are in a chilly window, drying out for the winter.

Nice collection hal. Love the tillandsia and succulents, they look great! Have you ever kept succulents next to a window during winter? I was thinking of leaving my succulent collection by a window this winter but I'm having second thoughts about that.

Thanks guys. Last year I kept some of the succulents in the single pane front window at our office. Cool (50 F?) and bright. They did well. They also do fine under lights. Keep them on the dry side and they don't grow much. The big Echevarias are tricky. They bolt. I left the biggest outside this year. They'll look good for a month or two, then provide some winter interest when they freeze. I have lots of young'uns that I'll take through the winter inside then grow big next summer.

Fantastic grow room Hal. Once I get my own house, I will dedicate a cold room / basement section exclusively for plants like this.
