I made my first real attemp at Tissue Culture. I think I did pretty well with only one jar out of 20 with contamination. Unfortunately only 6 jars sprouted and it's been about 4 months now. I am going to try to post pictures of them below and maybe you TC experts can give me some tips or advise. My VFT from seed seem to be doing well but growth has slowed down. I have 2 jars of VFT from cutting and one seems to be doing well but very small and the other has just started to bulge, they were started at the same time. The one just bulging looks like it's contaminated but nothing showing on the bulge's (is this normal?) My D.Nidiformis is doing well, but again the growth has slowed down. D. Capensis is very slow growing. The temps I have them in aren't steady, 25-28 day and 15- 18 at night. It's difficult to regulate the temps with my set up. Could this be the cause of the slow growth? Unknown VFT's that were grown from seed Typical VFT Typical VFT (could this be mould/contamination) Unknown Sarracenia ( i mixed up the seeds) D.Capensis Red (very small) D.Nidiformis

I wish I could get only 1/20 with contamination. Plus if you get any explants to take you are already an "expert"-I never have. The 3'rd (and to some degree the second) picture seem to be an example of "callous", an undifferentiated growth. I suspect you added some hormones to the third and maybe second bottle. CP's are extremely sensitive to hormones and will either suffer phenolic oxidation or become callouses. If you use hormones use 1/10 the concentration recommended for non-CP's.

Thanks Lloyd. I just hope I can get the same or better results next time. I never added any hormones. I thought about it, but I read that TC with seeds should be hormone free and I only made one batch of media for all. I did add PPM to the media. My next batch will be with hormones to see how many plants I can actually get from one piece of plant. I ordered seeds to use for tissue culture from 2 places. One was in Quebec (I forget the name) none of these grew. The other was from Rick Keehn and those are the ones in the pictures. I have neps, sarrs, and others that I haven't quite given up on yet. I may scrap them soon so I can use the jars for my next batch.
