Do heliamphora produce their own nectar to fill their pitchers, or do they fill with collected rainwater?

Thanks for the super fast reply. I just had my first pitcher open and noticed it was dry. I wanted to make sure before I added water.

They do have nectar though, in the nectar spoon. Though that only developes properly under very strong lighting conditions.

I'm aware of the spoons, but was unsure if they filled themselves up, like neps. My first pitcher is only about 1.5cm tall, so no spoon yet. I've only had the plant for about 2 weeks. It's amazing how hard it is to find that information on any of the pitchers. None of the info sites say anything about whether any of the pitcher genes' need to be filled or fill themselves. You'd think that would be essential growing information.

AFAIK Heli pitchers fill with rain water and not by themselves.

They even have a little drain hole about 1/2 of the way up the front of the pitcher so they don't overfill.

I read about that just recently Hal. It's quite interesting. I can't really see it on mine since it's so small. Today is aquarium cleaning day, so I'll try and get some pics of the plants in my other "aquarium" and post them up.
