I was watering my two neps tonight, and as the water soaked into the sphagnum moss on top, a large amount of small sow bugs came out from underneath it. I'm quite positive they're detrivores, but should I be concerned? There was only one visible in the pot with my ventricosa, which has about 6 pitchers. The raff pot had a lot, but it only has one unopened pitcher right now. Maybe they're busy feeding the vent?

They occasionally get into pots. More often into more mineral based than LFS. I've never seen them do damage. I find they tend to stay small and often go away as mysteriously as they came.

Thanks Lloyd. Maybe when the new pitcher opens they'll mysteriously make their way into it.

They shouldn't cause your plant any harm, but i've heard that they can really create quite an odor if they get into the traps. The extra protein should keep your plants happy though. dvg

We had a million sow bugs in our old house and I figured what a great idea to feed them to the neps. What a stench! Don't do that at home.

Noted! I'll continue to toss all found sow bugs into the salamanders terrarium.
