Did you know that many of the flowers sold for our gardens are imported from abroad? Israel is a major source for many of the varieties we buy as annuals. Most are brought to Canada in 144 plug trays, and then grown to sale size by the larger nurseries here in Canada. I sold out of my personally raised stock, and had to buy more from local nurseries. The plants are horrible compared to what I grow. They are forced into bloom with little to no care such as pruning, or turning the pots to produce a good looking plant. Many are dried out and limp. Only one of the 20+ local Farmer's Markets, big box stores and plant nurseries I visited has good looking plants. They charge more than double what the others do, for plants two orders of magnitude better. The plants I bought from the others needed severe pruning, and about three weeks of care to get to what I will sell. I'll have to quadruple my production for next year

I go to a few select smaller nurseries for my annuals. The usual suspects usually have the same old stuff.
