It's not very important. It's supposed to mean people respect you for something positive you've done or that they don't respect you for something they don't fancy.
Some people really don't like newby sounding posts and post negative karma. I suspect this is where your negative karma came from.
We should all remember that some quite young people post here and that their posts reflect their relative youth sometimes. We were all young once and we can all remember the embarassing way we acted and forgive those who are still young. After all one day they will be the expert growers.

The stars and the karma points are sort of pointless :-) . Don't worry about them.

I am one of these newbies and know I am not a expert on CP's by no means I made tons of mistakes growing that the "experts" here must think is nothing more than stupid questions. through these forums and talking to Lloyd who must have a endless supply of patience putting up with people like me lol! But thanks to Lloyd and the Internet, I am having success growing Venus Flytraps and a Sundew Plant. and through knowledge others shared I am trying to propagate me D.Capensis Remember "Experts" you were probably asking the same questions and making the same mistakes us newbies make also remember Newbies look here for advice not to be ridiculed and made fun of, no one knows everything and like me Newbies are sometimes not sure and do not wanna make mistakes that might harm or kill their plants they paid money for Myself 3 Venus Flytraps and a cape sundew cost me over $50.00 because ordered from a nursery because they are disease resistant and healthier than those in a store.

I don't answer for the 'experts', just for myself.
But Cook, we don't mind bad thing about you asking some question. The point about newbie is that they should also make their own effort by using the search button, googling a bit and reading the link provide by other members before asking their questions. That's it. Sure, you're new here and we all want to encourage you in your hobby but for people being here for a long time (by the way I'm relatively new here too) seeing the same questions come back again and again become annoying.
Also, putting 'I need help NOW', 'I need help IMMEDIATELY' and all those kind of urgency is also a little bit too much. At least for me, a no-expert at all.
That's it, nothing personal.
And by the way, there isn't karma anymore.

The important thing is that we are all here because we like weird plants and we like to get help and to help other people to grow these fascinating and difficult plants. It's inevitable that we will face what we perceive to be (pretty minor in the scheme of things) annoyances every now and then. It's very important that we keep the tone here friendly and polite. If somebody annoys you, either ignore them or offer friendly advice and help. I don't mean we can't have fun and inject some humour when we feel like it. Let's just remember what's important. I agree 100% with trying to find answers yourself first, but myself tried researching before I asked someone, Even you might have seen this, Some people like to show off what they know by the way they write the pages. Sometimes some so called "expert" makes even the simplest thing a mess and hard to understand so we sometimes need to have things explained to us. I do not know a lot but when I see a posting I asked or can offer input on I do, I do not claim my views are right or wrong, I just offer a opinion not rules to follow or else! lol !!

I don't want this to go on interminably. If someone is scamming/spamming/profane/pornographic: report it to one of the admin people. They can look after it. If someone is annoying to you for whatever other reason: just ignore them if you don't want to be helpful. Maybe pm them and let them know in a friendly way how they could get more respect in the OCPS. Please don't indicate your annoyance in a thread. I suspect that the majority of us would prefer the tone here be really up-beat even at the risk of repetition or silliness.
Just the other day, I emailed an expert about some thoughts I had. Of course, it turned out that most of my thoughts were really, really mundane compared to his level of knowledge. Despite this, he was really polite and thoughtful and I felt good afterward even though it was obvious that I was way out of my league. This has happened a number of times with other expert people. So if these really accomplished people can act in this fashion, than we can too. Let's make the effort.
Any flames: please PM me.
