Hey guys.. i understand this is a cp forum but since this new section was added... boy was I glad! got a question for u guys... How much light does a Phalaenopsis orchid need in order to thrive and show off its beautiful flowers? PS: I plan to buy my mom an orchid for her bday (her name is orchid) Cheers Mark

Phals like low light compared to CPs. East facing windows work well. A red tinge on the very outside of the leaves indicates just the right amount of light. Could even get away with a bright north facing window too.

I have one that flowers repeatedly in a bright north facing window with strong roots and leaves.

I use the standard orchid fertilizer at 1/2 strength of the "every watering" concentration (in distilled water).

Don't forget to mist the whole plant a lot! They come from rainforests.
