Scale might die overwinter if you keep the temperatures at 0C for the winter. Temperate scale species will overwinter as eggs. Spider mite will almost certainly die off if overwintered at ~0C. You do need all the ingredients for the scale recipe. For VFT: take the plants out of the medium and wash the medium off the roots. Compost the medium or sterilize it. Mechanically remove all scale with q-tips moistened with water. Spray the whole plant with the Neem recipe. Wash off after maybe 5-10 minutes. Leave plants in moistened paper towels in the fridge and check them every two weeks for scale.

Thanks again Lloyd. I'm thinking I might forget about the oil, and may do a water, Neem, eucalyptus oil, capsaicin type mix. However, if I spot scale, can I use a Q-tip or something and then wipe some oil overtop of it? What would you say?

I don't think oil is toxic to VFT's (maybe dews) but double strength Neem is but you need it for scale. Use oil on the q-tip to dislodge scale. I wouldn't use alcohol on VFT leaves as it may dehydrate them. I think a timed Neem exposure (as above), maybe repeated as needed two weeks later should do the trick.

Alright, thanks Lloyd. Just so you guys know, I read on the net that rosemary oil/extract can be used as a miticide. I took some rosemary and crushed it and spread it around my VFT's just to see if anything happens.
