I've always wondered where Canadian peat comes from. Up here in Northwestern Ontario we're surrounded by peat bogs. The MNR has never issued a permit for harvesting it as far as I can find out (I used to work there and my wife still does). Having dug down into bogs for collecting some sphag, doing soil samples or building roads I can tell you that you don't hit peat until you go a long way down. The top few inches is live sphagnum, then the really long fibres from the moss, for at least 1-2 feet. Then you slowly start getting into the actual peat.

If this is true, we may not have to concern too much for now : www.peatmoss.com/concern.phpWe must just hope that permits are not only managed with money lust ... Anyway, the problem I can see when using small pot is that the temperature may raise more quickly in them than in taller bigger ones ... Can be troublesome for some plants.

Heat can be a problem for some plants root but most of the stuff Devon has downsized will be fine with the smaller pots, plus he'll save room. Kudos to Devon for at least trying to do something!
