For those north of the border-it's hot in Southern Ontario (I'm in Toronto). Is anybody seeing signs of heat stress in their temperate plants? So far mine seem Ok, maybe a bit of drying out of old pitchers, probably the same as usual.
I'm using 4 liters a day of distilled H2O for my two large and 1 medium size pots (undrained) which seems to be just enough to keep the top of the soil moist-the water level seems to be at the bottom of the pots whereas usually it's about 6" below the surface.
It's so hot I moved my Indian Paintbrush and South African seedling pots to dappled sunlight. Some of my tomatoes are drooping (potted) despite soaking wet pots! No rain either for at least a month!

It's 45 degrees here, with the humidity. I think just 32 without the humidity. No signs of stress on my plants yet though, except for the occasional burnt Dionaea trap. To be honest I'm not worried about my temperate plants. There's not much we can do about the heat anyway.

It's 47 with the humidex(34 without) here (as I type this message, Billy Idol's "Hot in the City" is playing on the radio), fortunately my only surviving purpurea(heat/rodent/neglect problems in the early summer) will be in indoor recovery until fall.

We're not getting the heat here that you guys are getting; right now it's 23 and sunny with a slight breeze.
The hottest it's gotten here all summer here is only about 27, but we've had our fair share of rain.
It's usually quite dry out here so it's good to see the dugouts, sloughs and lakes back to up levels they were at ten years ago.

We're cooling off up here. Down to 28 with a 31 humidex. Good storms though. Part of the roof was ripped off of our airport last night and damaged 16 carts in the parking lot. My wifes coworker watched the manhole cover across the street shoot up about 6-8 feet from the water gushing out. On my side of town we had a downour and stiff winds, but nothing like the South side got. The rest of the week is forecasted for the 20's, so I may be able to sleep at night. No plants are showing any signs of problems except for the new N ventricosa. A couple of leaves are a bit burnt, but the new leaf is looking good, as is the N rafflesiana. Most of the dews are flowering, and my D natalensis/dielsiana is sending up it's second flower stalk!

Now at 39 degrees in Toronto (feels like 49 with the humidity) No rain for a while so my rain barrel is empty. Everything outside is getting lots of tap water. Better that than dead.

I picked up a second rain barrel because of that Hal. We had almost 2 weeks with no rain, and between the garden and the CPs I ran out. Had to run to my parents house and borrow some water from them.

Oh that sucks at least it wasn't your teli haha This year Andrea Niessen is coming from Colombia, she is an expert on Native Colombian Orchid species and will be bringing about 100 different species. I preordered several Lepanthes and Platystele but will still pick up any micro-mini that are warm-intermediate. Her website is www.orquivalle.com/ she has a list of everything she sells but not a list of what she is bring but it will give you an idea of what she might be bringing. If you see anything your interested in let me know and maybe I can pick it up if she brings it.
