OK I have been looking for the last days on websites that sell LFS but either they only ship to US or It is a outrageous price.
So I was wondering, where do you guys get your LFS?

okay! Notice one of my older threads...I found local sphagnum dried from home depot...it WAS CRAP!! See if u have a sheridan nursaries in your area...check them out...their sphagnum is like 2$ mroe expensive...but its completely worth it. If you are rich...you can try the chilean sphag which is like 12$ for like half a brick ... the regular one is like 7.99$.

For the live stuff, once you get a pinch of it, just grow it yourself, it's easy!! I grow mine in a fishbowl on my windowsill with my Queensland 'Dews
The thing with live LFS is that if you were to fill a whole pot with it, everything that wasn't getting light will kinda die and get a bit stinky, so usually "dead" LFS is used IN the pot, live goes on top. This is just my experience tho, I'm sure others have different angle on it
Did you find your moss Josh??

I started out with New Zealand Live Sphagnum (it comes to life quite nicely too!), but my supplier, Belgian Nursery stopped carrying it due to the price. They now use the Chilean stuff, which is okay, but is full of shrubbery, sticks and roots.
Interestingly, I have one tank in which a sarracenia has germinated (in the chilean stuff) and I've never had seed in the house yet. Ought to be interesting to see what species it is.
I still have a couple of tanks of live new zealand in which I am growing three darlingtonia and my Drosera adelae. I may start a couple of tanks specifically for rooting nep shoots (I finally have a couple to start) and for potting up new plants.

You're going to buy 100 gm of moss for $10 with shipping. It's very expensive. I would go with the local LFS and see how it goes. If you want to try it as an experiment go ahead and compare the local stuff with the eBay stuff.

insectivores: the large 30 L bag you found at Rona's and such are Canadian LFS, and from lower quality. Its a mix up of species and often with branches and others wanted material. NZ LFS is often a pure bag of S. cristatum, which is a coarse somewhat large sphagnum, having better absorbing/wetting properties. It does a huge difference when mounting an orchid on a piece of cork, and I feel it would be the same in the case of some sensitive CP. Anyway, Canadian LFS isn't that bad, but the non-purity of the bag, the lower transportation cost (the one you use either come from QC or NB surely) and the heterogeneity of the mosses give the lower price

I would stay clear of Hawaiian Botanicals. The place has the worts mealy bug infestation ever. I mean I found them on the roots even. Very disapointing.

Infestations do happen... They just need to clear it up... Personally I find them a little to expensive anyway! Cya
