Wow, that doesn't look like fun. Hopefully when the peat settles and gets more firm this won't be a problem anymore.

When I made my microbogs, I put a small pvc pipe to the bottom, then put it 2" of gravel without any carbonates, covered it with plastic netting, then 1" of LFS, then the perlite/peat to the top. Then when it overflows you can siphon out the tubing to lower the water level. Also if you suspect a big rain, siphon out the water, cover it with a fine mesh to slow down the rain and likely it won't overflow. You can put a drainage hole just below the surface with some cotton in it to keep the medium in and allow the water to drain and not overwhelm the plants.
However there won't be any damage when the water goes down, it just looks messy. Try to pluck the smaller plants and just raise them up and tamp the medium down. The soil will be so loose that the roots will just practically float out. My plants get drowned all the time, the only annoying thing is all the VFT traps get triggered by the perlite.

Ouch. Maybe a few holes a couple of inches below the soil level could help prevent this in the future.

It poured yesterday, all flooded but I just used the drainage tubes and everything is Ok. However it is COLD out there, down to 2C tonight and even a very slight touch of a snowfall.

Oh pet your having a pretty harsh time over there, I hope everything works out and the snow stops I was amazed by the amount of snow driving through Alberta and Saskatchewan but I didn't think you would be getting snow too. You have to update us with picture when you work everything out.

Once everything starts to get more established it should really take off for you Pet.
Keep us updated through the growing season with your bog's progress. It should be looking really good pretty soon.

haha I like your thinking, When you lose 2 or 3 plants it means you need re-order them...... along with another large handful
