So there's a member on TF(zero) that has a ping as his avatar, but modified the colors so that it is blue, which got me thinking... Remember way back, I mean WAY back, when we were taught that if you put a celery stick in water dyed with food coloring, that you would be able to see it in the 'veins' of the celery stick... Well I've decided that I am willing to experiment with a couple plants, what effects this might have on them, primarily, on pings. I'll keep you guys posted if I see any results or if the added dye raises the ppm and kills em... I've sacrificed a p. moranensis(or is it sethos... idk, lack of tagging, bad idea) and have chosen blue as color to start with, and if it works, i'll move to the reds and mix to make purples as well (if all works out). 4 colors(yellow, red, blue, green), 2$+/- at the local grocery store

Actually, florists do this to flowers you buy a fair bit. Some of you may have seen bright "blue" orchids, dark purple heather, strangely coloured Gerber daisies and other unlikely things from florists. The florists put colouring into the water, and that is what turns the orchids blue and the heather purple. Take pictures and show them. By all means I'd love to see your new mulitcolured pings. *(sings)* oh love, is a many coloured ping...

I am almost feeling like we should post guesses as to how this will turn out.. Interesting (if a tad strange) idea Blokeman- no matter what comes out of it, at least you can say you gave it a shot eh??

Well after 4 days, no ill effects! Slight, if any coloration to the 'veins'... might just be my eyes playing with me... I'll keep you guys posted!

Can you call the ping an avatar yet? What do you mean? Well, so far, no flower. It is still kicking and making nice large leaves, but no veining finally. I am real anxious to see what its flower will show though. Back to the drawing board

Update! So... I've noticed that the blue dye does not get pulled up through the substrate and into the plant, however, if i spray the plant with a solution of dye with the use of a vaporiser, the leaves do absorb it and it does create a veining effect, with no negative side-effects! The flower has still yet to open, so in a short amount of time, we will see if this treatment affects the flower! Good god am I slow sometimes.... yes it will soon be worthy of avatar status! By all means, if you can spare a ping, try it! Moranensis is taking it fine, my next victim, esseriana
