I'd disown myself if I ever went on facebook!!!!! Can't understand why people want to share their personal information with everyone! To each their own I guess. I tried real hard not to post a response on this thread all day but to no avail! People I lost touch with after highschool don't need to find me nor do I care to talk to them. If we lost touch... thats life and I can live with that. Oh well I guess its not for everyone. I keep getting asked at least 2-3 times a week to get on to facebook and I haven't even considered it even once. LOL. Even MSN is too much for me! I hate typing a conversation when I can just pick up the phone! Such a connected/disconnected society we have become huh?!

Yup. You all make very good and valid points! I resisted that facebook thing for a long while, then finally saw the value of it as a means of organizing events. I do not post any private information... stuff like my work history, address, and other personal info is not posted. Only a fool would make that material public. Having said all that, I must admit, I've found a number of long lost friends through it... guys I went to high school with (that's over 30 years ago) ... so it was kind of neat to catch up on gossip, and to see how fat and old everyone has grown. Also real nice to see photos of their kids. Anyways, you guys all make valid observations... and am glad you are all so vigilant ...privacy and caution are very wise things to practice and maintain on this world WILD web. D

Yeah my facebox account is mostly a joke (tho my current status about stitches is unfortunately empirically based, but it was fun getting to where the problem happened) Everything I have on there is glib at the least, but I, too, use it to organize things without having to type or dial up numerous people. Many of my extended family (not on my side) are on there too, so I keep it clean and light... But agreed with most of the points posted here, I see people I know sharing stupid amounts of info (like if you get an "application" from a 3rd party, guess what, you just signed up to dozens of telemarketing lists ) and it drives me nuts- oddly enough these same people are the folks who have to send their PC into the shop regularly cos of some crap that ended up on there haha live and learn or ignore and pay eh??

Facebook rocks. You can govern your privacy on there. My profile's closed and I have exceptions depending on a person's level of personal relation. But really - how personal is your information anyway? If someone knows where I work, what harm does that play in my life? Anyone who feels inclined to stalk me... all the power too you! lol I like having connection to my friends when they're busy. Life's busy. Facebook is a solution to that. I talk to friends in australia, the US, across canada. It's great; i love technology and amalgamation of people's interests/life. I think the biggest difference is between people who are ultra private vs. not; if you don't want anyone to know what's going on in your life -- you don't update your profile, or you don't have one at all. I could go on, and on... but i have to go for lunch
