it depends of how well are doing your Helis. If the pitchers are well formed, nectar spoon isnt distorted/reverted, and the look of so much sphagnum doesnt bother you, i'd leave it there.
Some authors have measure light penetration in Sphagnum mats, and its doesnt go deeper than 2 cm in general. This could impede your Heli growth i it ends being severely overgrown, especially in poor light conditions. But if the plants are fine, i would let it there (if you like to look, of course)

Now come on, you know that my heli has the same sphagnum population problem, and its great, just keep the sphagnum trimmed like i do.

My guess is that the pitcher is actually getting enough light- if you've seen MacPhersons books, most Helis in habitat are kinda more like little tubes sticking up out of the dirt, not the long pitchers you often see. That is just my guess, that the pitcher is more along the lines of what you'd expect from the plant under excellent light Now for the experts to prove me wrong haha

I'm no expert, but those heli's look mighty fine to me... IMHO if you can get your heli to color up that nicely, even though it's being smothered by sphag, you're definably doing something right! If you are seeing that the sphag is too abundant, just cut off the growth tips of the sphag, it'll slow it down considerably, without being detrimental to the health of your plant. Is that really then one I gave you?! Congrats! It has more coloration than any i have going that size. Must be due to actual sunlight vs. T5's...

Observations made in their natural habitat has shown pitcher height to be much lower in areas of less moisture. (with all else being equal) I had my "tallest" pitchers when I used pure cypress and watered twice a day (they were also well fed) I would also recommend you feed it, couple fish pellets once a month and you will see the them increase.... You will find helis are hungry lil buggers and will greatly appreciate the fish food. But be patient and keep up the routine, there is a definite lag. ymmv but it works for me HTH's Av

*Jaw drops* Wow, thanks for posting, I will definitely try to water more, and as for fish pellets, I can second that, I have seen an increase since I tried them. WOW, just to think I can look forwards to that!

bloke, careful mate.... back then i could water twice a day because of the substrate I was using. (the pictures are current though)
If you have strong light you can feed more, if you have a very open mix you can water more, etc etc etc
There are many inter-related variables mate, you have to find the right balance based upon your specific set of parameters.
take a systematic approach mate...

I use Hikari Cichlid (medium sized) primarily and betta pellets for small pitchers....
