i didn't look too closely at my bog first thing this year I was afraid of what i might see as it didn't get covered this year. just shoved anything that heaved back in. actually went about doing some cleaning today (about a third of the way there) and looks like everything is fine. I lost a moorei from santa rosa and possibly a rubra, but even the rubra might just have some dead crowns. Best of yet is that I'm getting my first flowers on some plants I've grown from seed including some heterophylla purps! I'll post some pics once i'm done cleaning it (its kinda dissheviled right now). How did everyone else make out? Sib

UPDATE- just went out to check on things- it's windy and kinda rainy so no pics just yet (I'll snap some when it calms down) but things are looking GREAT overall. My first pitcher should open any day now, oddly it's my S.oreophila- the pitcher is in a race with the flowers on most of my other Sarrs and it looks like it will open before even the flower on the plant itself. My P.grandiflora has a nice big flower on it- funny thing, I thought the plant didn't make it through the winter as it was obscured by debris (I don't like to muck about much with the surface due to all the little hibernaculae and stuff) but the flower made it obvious that the plant is quite alive and much larger than it was last year... Too many flowers to count on the Sarrs too- there'll be at least 20 but probably lots more than that

The sarr's you gave me are looking good-the flower buds are getting bigger. Lots of dews are coming up, too. I'm not sure what's happening with the sarrs that are not obviously dead, they may yet come back.

It's hard to judge given as how we have a totally different climate than what they are used to for the most part- some of my Sarrs look like they're barely waking up yet- if it was my first year growing I would be concerned but from my few years of experience the one thing I DO know is you can't really judge them against one another especially when it comes to hybrids.
Glad to know my offerings are working out for you, it still blows my mind that you've not had a Sarr flower for you before, glad to make that happen. Did that TINY Ping make it??

The ping is doing well and I think some from last year are coming back.

Glad the Ping made it, I was a tad hesitant to even bother giving it to you seeing how tiny it was (the "plant" I gave Lloyd was a tiny unopened "gemmae" maybe 2 mm long) but I am pleased that it survived- make sure to observe the flowers when it makes them, I have a feeling I gave you my sole P.vulgaris instead of P.grandiflora!! Here is another quick vid of my bog taken yesterday www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFx5lMs_ahMMUCH less windy and much more to see!!

Looks good mabudon. I like the videos - they have a certain style. Maybe The Blair Bog Project?

Thanks petmantis, the darn condenser mic pics up sounds I don't want REALLY well- if I take video in my house with the PC running all you can hear is the damn fan running

The first open pitcher, S.oreophila What I am pretty sure are S.rubra flowers My P.moranensis, exhibiting odd purple edges on the leaves as it "wakes up" My little outdoor thingy- the Sarrs are seedlings from Brian. Note the "bog armour" Zak

You've got to keep darlingtonia roots cool and aerated.
Mabudon, my sarr flowers look great. How come nobody has ever mentioned what a strong scent they have, sort of flowery with a bit of a weird edge to it.
