How tall is the spike supposed to get?

i think up to 30 cm/ 12 inches... but since im eagerly waiting for it, it will surely not flower under 2 feet lol

That's great, Tom. My longifolia is flowering plus it has another spike on its way. My humboldtii is ridiculous, the spike is over two feet long and still isn't flowering, just sending out adventitious stolons.

my longifolia seems to have skipped his flowering this year... perhaps not cool enough. 2' flower stalkfor U. humboldtii!... and this morning i wished to see it flower... I'll think I'll revise my position haha, dont want to rent the upper appartment just to allow a plant to flower

No need to get an upper apartment: just stick the spike out the window! I just measured and (not easy as it's so twisty and bendy) and it's actually ~35"!!!!! Still no flowers.

mine is stubborn to have only 2-3 leaves (4-5" in height), pretty small IMO in comparison from others plants i've "seen". But it is not sending 3 stolon from the mesh pot into the water... might repot it to see if it can 'improve' its growth

I still sympathize with you. I carefully tended my humboldtii spike and misted it for at least 2 months before I gave up. The tip went vegetative and I planted it.

drat!!
oh well, could be worse, it could have just grown and grown for years before giving up (which I believe you were anticipating, Tommy)

or having it to flower only to realize it was a giant form of U. subulata
