Seriously let us know if they germinate (it should be within a week). I'd like to get some.

Hey Tael, that's great. Do you have the link to the guy you bought them from?

Tael, you are really starting to show your magic touch with your seeds. I tried to germinate some U. nelumbifolia from seed a couple of years back, with no success. I now have that one in cultivation, and though it is making lots of leaves, it hasn't surprised me with a flower yet...guess it wants to leave it for a big surprise. Don't mean to be too nosy, but what kind of pixie dust are you sprinkling on your seeds?

tom: Yeah, I was really scared that they wouldn't germinate, because of the short life-span of seeds. But I guess the guy harvested them the day before he sent them to me, and they only took about 3 days to get here from Poland, so I was lucky I guess! lloyd: Yeah! It sure is great. Here's the link: cgi.ebay.ca/20-x-Utricularia-NEPROPHYLLA-very-hungry-rare-seeds_W0QQitemZ200311086168QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_212?hash=item200311086168&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2|65%3A10|39%3A1|240%3A1318 They're 9.99 in PLN which is only 3.31 Canadian dollars, they hardly get bid on and he posts an ad for them all the time. The shipping is really fast, and he replies to questions quickly as well. dvg: Hehe, I think it's just luck! The only seeds that haven't come up for me so far are d. natalensis... and I only had ten of them so maybe that was the reason. Hopefully your u. nelumbifolia will bloom for you soon, they have beautiful flowers! Is it terrestrial? I read something somewhere (Can't remember where...think I was just doing a google search) that if you let the water table get really low, and then flood them up the the level of the soil, that sometimes it will help them bloom. But I can't remember if it was just for a certain type of utric... But you should take pictures of it once it blooms! Hehe, about the pixie dust, I wish I knew! But I wish I knew what you do for your plants to make them look so beautiful!

U. nelumbifolia is a terrestrial Utric. I looked up some pics of it's flower...it's a beauty. When it decides it wants to flower, I will post a pic. Some of the Utric flowers are quite impressive.

Longifolia is easy to grow and relatively easy to flower and the flowers are really nice and big, too. My longifolia has two scapes coming up and my humboldtii is teasing me with this ridiculously long scape!

dvg: It's true! Some of the flowers are pretty amazing. And I love how they make a little carpet of leaves... lloyd: Yeah, I've heard that longifolia can be an easy one to grow, but that it doesn't flower quite as often as some of the others, but maybe I'm wrong. How often does your flower, lloyd? You should also post a picture of yours!

Lloyd, I would like to see a pic of your flowering U. longifolia. I got a U. humboldtii the same time I got the U. nelumbifolia and am still waiting for flowers. Do you do anything special to entice your Utrics to flower?

My longifolia never flowered for years, maybe because I had it in a terrarium where it was too spoiled-100% humidity, warm all year around and medium light. Now it's in a regular terrarium where conditions sort of vary with the seasons and it flowered last year and it now has two scapes. The humboldtii may never flower, the scape just gets bigger and bigger. I had to put a plastic container over the scape to keep the humidity up as it grew out of the terrarium.
My Calcifyda is a great flowerer, flowers ~8 months of the year. My tricolour occasionally sends up abortive scapes. My laterifolia used to flower like crazy but not for years. My uniflora hasn't flowered yet. The nelumbifolia mostly sends up tons of stems and never scapes.
I'll try to be less lazy and post pictures. What's the easiest site to upload to?

Yeah! I've heard Calcifyda is pretty nice. It must be so frustrating when they put up flower stalks that don't open. I wonder what stopped the laterifolia? I use photobucket.com. It's pretty good I find.

@ Lloyd: have you tried repotting your lateriflora? the 'shock' might help a bit on promoting growth and flowers...
@tael: add me on the U. nephro wish list after lloyd, if you have some to trade one day
