I moved most of my plants to my new apartment. Some of the plants look a bit shocky but the U. humboldtii is sending up a weird thick shoot. I'm hoping it's a flowering scape. If it is, I'll get some pictures.

Well it's definitely a flower scape. It's already about a foot long and growing out of the top of the terrarium.

Maybe give it something to "twine" around?? or does it look like it's going to bloom as-is?

It looks almost like the longifolia flowering spike, just basically a long stem but thicker. No sign of twining. Definitely looks like it's on its way to flowering.

Maybe the plant moving shocked it into flower. It thought it was going to die.

Actually it didn't go through any shock. I think I just noticed the shoot after the move because I looked closely at them all. It must have started just before.

Sadly, I noticed a very small, black bract near the end of the spike. I fear that when it poked its head out of the terrarium the humidity and temperature difference affected it. I'm crossing my fingers.

The flower spike keeps on growing. Over a foot out of the terrarium now. The little bracts kept drying out so I bought a plastic container to go over the terrarium. I'm spraying inside it to keep the humidty up.

Just checking my plants last night (and dropping my biggest ping-what a mess).
My U. humboldtii had invaded my U. reniformis! Luckily I was able to pull it out intact. I don't think there was any residual contamination. I could swear I just checked it a few weeks ago. You've got to be careful with utrics.

oh no, not that beast of a P.moranensis from Steve?? The mass of that thing would act against it on the way down, if it needs replacing LMK

No the big moranensis is fine. The REALLY big gigantea from Tom went down, lucky only one leaf needed propping up.

It's easy to reproduce, just take a shoot and stick it in its own growspace. I don't have enough space to propagate it now. I'm going to set up a new growspace in the basement when I have a chance. Hopefully if all goes well I should be able to get some ready for the spring. PM me to remind me this fall or winter.
