Or are we in summer yet? with the 90 degree weather I can never keep them straight! Not sure how everyone else is making out but we've been getting timley rain here for once. beans got planted and we've had some form of rain on a regular basis which is nice, though I'm sure will stop soonish. Water pails are full, but have emptied one already on the plants inside. I think we're supposed to get more rain in the next couple days so I'll have to put some more pails out and start stocking it in barrels for the summer. Good thing about the bog is that I built it rather deep so it should be able to hold quite a bit of water. As is, there are no puddles on it so that tells me it still wants to hold more water. We've finally gotten to the point of having a few puddles around the farm, ducks are loving it!
Back to the bog! Flowers have been big, showey and plentiful! Coming in shades of yellows, reds and oranges, and ranging in size from the dainty rubras of about 1" to the big flavas and oreos at 3-4"!
I had alot of fun shooting in the bog in the last couple weeks. Lots of great images and cool effects particularlly the day I shot after a rainstorm at dusk. Makes for some great screen savers and backdrops.
Flowers are probably getting close to being done... flavas and oreophilas are all done (minus the odd late bud), but the rubras are in full show... think I'm just waiting for a minor to flower after now, dosen't look like there are any alatas or leucs comming, so sad But with flowers comming to an end that means that the pitchers are just beginning!
This is a great pitcher plant. Not alot of pitchers produced but look at the colour! and its the entire pitcher too the ground!
Nice coloney of pitchers and flowers on this flava var. ornata. One of the best flava varieties for year round pitcher production.
S. x popei, nice dense pitcher coloney and a bunch of flowers on this plant this spring.
Even a spring pitcher from the S. x readii for some added colour, though their late summer pitchers are much more impressive!
I must say these plants are absolutly feasting aswell! In the short time I was out and about to take these photos i watched many a wasp and fly meet their demise!
I'm also seeing some impressive growth on some of my 2006 spring seedlings. some definate colour and unique characteristics are comming out on them now:
(goofey over sized lid and mouth)
(Red thing, awsome red colour year round)
plants are sending out pitchers atleast 2x bigger then last year most are considerably larger then that, some of these plants are looking to be nearly matured! I'm looking forward to picking out some good plants to raise up, and possibly look to register later on if they continue to excelle.
Thats it for now.
