So, my first and only ping (weser) flowered a while ago, still looks nice, and divided up all the new plantlets from leaf pullings. Anyways, I looked today and the mother ping herself is now two So what should I do, divide it now or wait until I have no choice? I don't know pings all that well so I'm not sure if it will get harmd or not. Thanks in advance for info!

Maybe wait until it is very visibly two plants, back to back to each other. Then carefully uproot your plants and check that both halves have roots under them. If so, very carefully rock the two plants back and forth in your hands until you have seperated them. Don't be too alarmed if you inadvertantly knock a few leaves off of your plants. It seems that is what you can expect whenever you play with your pings, but these leaves can then be used as leaf pullings and propagation. Good luck to you with this.

Agreed 100% with DVG, do as he says On a related note, I find that leaves that just "fall off" while doing that kind of thing work much better than leaves I intentionally "pull" as far as propagation goes, so as mentioned don't worry about them falling off, each one is potential new plants!

Hey! Wait until there clearly 2 plants like everyone says! Good luck with your plants dude! BTW, 2 pings can survive like that but when they split again then they will get crowded! Cya

Thanks for the answer's! I'll leave it alone until it really divides. When I first got it from Kheens, a bunch of leaves fell off so I ended up getting 7 then, we'll see how many this time!
Thanks again.

Wow, that's a beautiful ping, prmills. If you don't mind me asking what kind of soil do you have it in and what do you do for it's dormancy? I was actually looking at the same variety at Keehn's and I'm falling in love with it (I can see this is going to turn into an expensive hobby). Good luck with dividing!

No need to spend a lot of money. If you're patient and willing to make-do, you can have lots of plants for a modest amount.

True... I might like to try a Butterwort one day, but maybe I should wait for now.

Soil mix is 2 peat, 2 perilte, 1 sand, but I've read there are alot better mixs for these plants. www.pinguicula.org/ has alot of info on them. It can be expensive, all depends on how... impatient one can be But once you start getting different kinds, you can take leaf cuttings and do some other things to get your collection blooming If you are patient enough, or want to try, seeds are good too, I've got some but only a few of the different spieces have come up after almost 3 months... teaches you patients I tell you

Thanks for letting me know! Yeah, I'll bet the seeds do take a lot of patience. Is there a lot of extra work involved of just waiting? I don't mind waiting too much, but I might try the seeds when I'm a bit more experienced with these plants.

not much other then waiting. You have to find out if they need cold or hot stratification, then give them water, high humidity, lots of light and you'll be good to go until they sprout

Eep, well I don't have a terrarium to provide the high humidity that they need sadly...

Ziploc bags work just fine for maintaining humidity- that's what I used to do in my bone-dry house

Hi tael, it's still better to get plants rather than seeds. They are not that expensive plus they are easy growers too. Try the P. Pirouette. I got a couple from Sdeering and DVG and they are growing really well. Note that I am not keeping them in a terrarium and I an only using perlite as the medium.
