We finally bit the bullet and fired up the greenhouse. The plants are being moved in and are waking up. The three 1000 watt metal halied run about 5 hours a day and Rick is sweating bullets watching the meter on the propane tanks go down daily. My fingers and toes are crossed for warmer temps real soon.

lol. I see in the topic title I couldn't spell greenhouse this morning. We'd love to have gone geothermal...even looked into it but it would have cost $35,000.00 No way I could pull that off on a grocery store salary!

It takes two months for the plants to wake up and grow properly so they are suitable for sales to the nursery centres. We have already stalled a month to save money on propane and electricity costs but didn't dare wait any longer. Rick's hoping that if we can start the season up earlier he could help me pay some of the bills.

There was an interesting article on geothermal in the Toronto Star recently. There are Canadian companies that take on all the capital & start-up costs of geothermal. You sign a long-term lease with them and they provide heating & A/C for a yearly fee.

I'd be interested to read the Toronto start article on the geothermal. I'll go to there site and see if I can find it. Thanks for the info.
Thanks V, my fingers and toes are crossed for lots of sales this year. This is our make it or break it year. If we don't have sales we'll probably shut down before we end up bankrupt. Speaking of...lots of work to do..better get at it.
