This might belong in the bad suppliers list, but for some reason today, the words "tissue culture" caught my eye and brought to mind a bad experience with a supplier that others have also had problems with... HotHouse Carnivores - Canada (Jessy).
Back in the summer of last year, I sent this gentleman (term used loosely) $140 for ten or so tissue cultures of various plants that I wanted to add to my collection. What I received at the time was simply jars with some sort of gelatenous material at the bottom with a few seeds planted into it. I always thought that tissue cultures originated from plant material, not seed.
Anyway, the result has been ZERO germination to date, and emails to jessy have gone unanswered.
I have noticed that his website is gone, so at least he's not in the business of ripping people off for the time being.
It's too bad that people like this have to come along and spoil all of the good experiences I have had with people like Purpman, Mabudon (hope I spelled it correctly this time), Tom, Steve, Flytrap, Biollante, Syble, Insectivore, Cooks Carnivores (took a while, but they DID get here) and any others that I have forgotten. Fortunately, the good outweighs the bad by a longshot here.

I have to admit, I still laugh whenever I recall you telling me this story for the first time- not at you, of course, but just imagining your face when you got the stuff (and your telling of the tale was funny, THEN I think of Jay's face screwing up when I told him)
TC can be done with seeds, but if you ordered flasks, they hsould have contained plants- just media with seeds is about the same as ordering a "50 year old Sarracenia clump" and getting a packet of 10 year old seeds purportedly from the plant in question- sure, you MIGHT end up with somethin, but no matter what, the product was FAR from as advertised (and should have cost pretty much nothin, since simply preparing medium and puttin seeds on it is almost PRE- "first step")

Yup... I paid $140 for 10 "tissue culture vials" (aka jars of gook with non-viable seed stuck to it). They would have made for some nice additions to my collection too, as this is what I had ordered (I now have some nice cephs thanks for biollante) but the rest is still on my "want" list.
Drosera Regia Pinguicula lutea Pinguicula Lusitanica Cephalotus follicularis Sarracenia oreophila Heavily veined Byblis liniflora Utricularia alpina Sarracenia Minor Okee Fenokee giant red Genlisea Aurea Drosera Capensis red
Oh well, at least we have something to laugh over!!!

I remember that offer on the CP ListServ... I was very skeptical, so i wrote Jessy asking if there was a way to know first- that the seeds were viable (as most of the stuff he offered were rare and seeds of them on the market are usually too old, badly conserved and with erratic germination rate) and second - that there was any proof that he didn't oversterilized them to put it in vitro and thus, killing the embryo... Never had a reply on that... Too bad I didn't knew you wanted to order, I could have saved you that rip-off...
