Has anybody tried disinfecting with PPM alone? I've read about soaking in 2-4% PPM for 4 hours of explants and seeds and then using PPM in the medium. I just put some Darlingtonia and S. purp. seeds in TC after a 4 hour soak in 4% PPM. I'd like to try PPM disinfection for explants to avoid injuring them and cutting down on phenolic bleeding. I think the alcohol, bleach and peroxide may be too traumatic for delicate CP's.

I don't know much about TC all I've got is a jar of D."Big Mouth" from Stephen, but was your solution of bleach, alcohol, etc to strong that it was a little harsh on the plants maybe a weaker solution? But I should leave this to the pros! Cya

I only begin to try this product in the media, not for desinfection use. It hasn't been perfect regarging this when I tried to replate some contaminated Phalaenopsis stemprop. the contamination usually took over the media again 1-2 weeks later (i used a concentration of 1 ml/liter if i remember well).

What is PPM?
Are you referring to Potassium Permanganate?
Cheers, Sean

This will explain PPM: www.ppm4plant-tc.com/On a different note: Today I bought a small container of contact lens cleaner. It is supposed to be really good at getting rid of organic contaminants and must be pretty non-toxic. I'm going to try it for initial cleansing of seeds and explants. I saw a few references to chemicals used for contact lenses for tissue culture disinfection.
