hey guys, I like to take pictures every month to see how my plants and terrarium is going. Here they are: Its getting pretty crowded in here. And still to come are 2 dionaea out of dormancy. The 2 dentate's in there are out experimentally to see how they and how long they take to come out of dormancy. the 2 labelled deilsania's are an inch each. the other one is still small. The B52 and other dionea;s are going to loose a lot of leaves. Each plant there has atleast 3-4 bugs inside them. A couple of traps opened...but this time...I won't be surprised if all of them blacken since I am sure I over-fed them. cheers, varun

Vraev,
If you like keeping a photo log of all ofyour stuff, you'll love a program I am putting the finishing touches on. You can keep the details, notes and photos of your plants in a nice, organized database. I'll make it available to everyone on this board when I get it all done and polished up.

I do indeed like the idea Rick. The reason I like to do it is so that waaay down the road...when I look back..I want to have memories of where I started off. Your program will definately help. thanks. Tell me if u need a beta tester For instance...it makes me soo happy to see my plants after seeing this pic: This is where I started...and the above is where i got. At that time...there are 1,2,3,4,5 plants in the terrarium....now I have close to 23 induviduals (considering all vft seedlings as one) including living breathing moss I love my plants because THEY HAVE trusted me...and accepted my growing techniques. "lol! I AM A NORMAL PERSON...lol! I just love my 5 month old plants.....no wonder people don't sell 10 year old VFT's " Lloyd. I am glad too. It would have been a waste of your plant if I couldn't keep it alive. I am happy that it likes the highly filtered shade under the sphagnum. You wouldn't believe it. From top u cannot see ANY LEAVES. I moved the moss a little and you can see like 10-15 new leaves..some small some big as a punch hole. Its kinda pretty. I can't wait to see it grow like the picture given in Barry's first chapter.

Vraev:
Take the utrics out of the general soil medium! They are very invasive. You will be sorry if you leave them there. It is probably not too late to isolate them. Take the utric and a few inches of surrounding soil and put it into its own pot. Do not allow direct contact with the general soil in the terrarium. Remove flowers as soon as the corollas drop off. They enjoy full sun with a nice purple colour and lots of flowers.

hmm.....are you serious lloyd. But it is soo cute for now. I guess yeah...I heard horror stories of calcifyda invading even cuttings from the main plants. hmm....but it has just now recovered and finally started growing. The other problem is I only have 2 of those 2 inch pots which now are occupied by VFT's and gemnae. I have no other small pot .

Yes I'm serious. I like utrics but they are invasive. I still have some subulata in one of my pygmy droseras even after super cleaning and repotting. Clean it up now while you have the chance.
I've seen those pots online. Also try local florists, garden shops; I've had them give them to me for free. My sure fire way to get them is as follows (don't faint Vraev): go to home depot, find the plant area. There will be dozens of dead plants in the little plastic pots. Dump out the dead stuff and soil and put the pots in your pocket. I once told a Home depot employee about my larceny and she said no-one cared. Don't get caught though, just in case. If you really feel guilty take the pots with the dead stuff to the service desk and offer to pay 5 cents each. They will be confused though and it will take a while to get them to settle down. I once offered to pay a few dollars for some dying orchids at home depot and they wouldn't sell them to me at a discount and of course they were all completely dead the next time I came.

I have had varying success at getting dead-ish stuff from HD- there was a pot with some nice sphagnum in it and a thoroughly DEAD something or other (assumed it used to be an orchid) and the clueless person in "charge" of the department told me that it would have to go for full price or nothing, whereas I have talked dead-ish looking plants down to 1/4 the price, it all depends on who you get.. I like your description of the process Lloyd For some reason that is TOTALLY F'ing HILARIOUS, unfortunately cos it's TRUE Good one sir, funny stuff for this frigid weather

I'm glad you got a laugh at it. Come to think of it, it is sort of funny. For some reason it reminds me of the scene in 2001, A Space Odyssey; where the proto-human apes are staring at the obelisk.

vraev nice job what a difference between when you started your terrarium and now. I am keeping all my plants in their own unique terrarium and they look cool. I love the terrarium idea.
Keep your passion for them up.
