The new ICPS journal just came. It had an interesting article about the terrestrial utrics. They wanted to see if they could stop one terrestrial from attacking others in tray watering systems. They found that it was impossible. The utrics could break through anything that was permeable to water. Steel filters, glass filters were no barrier, the stolons would actually break the filters! U. calycifida was really good at busting out. With time any terrestrial utric will infest the tray system and you will end up with a monoculture of the most aggressive utric.

Your saying if you have them all in one big tray or if you have each one of them potted up in there own pot? Its interesting, Utrics are nice Cp's but could accualy be a parasite or "Weed" if you prefer in soem cases like "Subulata"! Lol P.S. Lol What make me laugh is that a few months ago Carl sent me 4 kinds of utrics, Sandersonii, Subulata, Longifolia, Prehensilus... Longifolia and Prehensilus never showed signs of life... But The pot that the Subulata was in didn't either...(Besides unidentified drosera seedlings) It was in the Prehensilus pot that Subulata recovered... How I don't know...lol Little Intruder... Cya

They were using separate trays or pots set in a larger tray for watering purposes to keep the maintenance costs down. They found that utrics go out of their pot into the watering tray and into other pots. Survival of the fittest. At the end, you have one invasive species in every utric pot.

They are pretty awesome at spreading around, to be sure- I have all mine on one tray, but I keep other stuff in between them, so as the stolons start to sneak out the bottom or over the sides I can sorta catch them in the act, it has worked out okay so far (and I do NOT keep U.subulata with my other Utrics, it all resides with my sundews currently but has yet to "jump" to the Utric nursery)
