Hey all you Nep fans, I came across this thread on another forum, stating that watering your Neps and other cp's just once with cooled, stale coffee...the old stuff that typically goes down the drain, can really jump start new healthy robust growth. I have heard of people in the past, watering their plants with tea, but not with coffee. Because the thread was started by a reputable member on the other forum, I thought I'd pass this one along, and see if anyone has any feedback or previous results. Anyways, just some food for thought... pitcherplants.proboards34.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=6288

Great idea, Doug! My Dear Nan used coffee grounds on nearly all of her plants, both in the yard and in the house, and she collected countless ribbons and medals in the end-of-summer fair in her home town in Northwestern Ontario for years. And while I personally have never tried cooled, stale coffee on my Neps or any of my other CP's, I have, on occasion, accidentally spilled stale coffee on my stomach, which is now very healthy and growing robustly. Coincidence? I think not...

Well for cryin' out loud... all of this time, I thought that it was the beer, pop, pizza, chips, chicken wings, cookies, (I could go on forever here) and most of all, my wife's AWESOME greek cooking that was the culprit. Just wait until I see my doctor the next time he tells me that I have to cut back!

Sounds like you guys have really gotten your Stomachia rotundii's to take off on a full growth spurt. I've noticed mine, although not as robust as some, seems to spike in growth right around this time of year. Now, if I can just feed it with a nice Colombian blend, that might cause it to really perk up. ;D

A local grocery store was giving away coffee grounds to be used for growing plants. I should have taken some.

Wow, there are really tons of stuff that you can use for plants. I didn't know that coffee is one of them. I have to try this one today.

The only problem left is how do you end up with left over coffee? I think I'm gonna have to figure that out before I can try this method... But the current testing on people is good, so it's time plants get the benifits of these tests. Tim Hortinous var. double x double is always a variety of choice

Starbucks usually has them available I think, just ask for them, Elf got lots of them in summer. Can't hurt to look for coffee grounds at coffee shops, it beats throwin them out and having them fertilize landfills

I have a few "spare" neps I can try it on if anyone is intrested to see what happens to them before they try it. Is it coffee grounds or cold coffee? If anyone is intrested in me doing this first to test it out let me know here. If not I won't bother.

Rug, I'd definitely be interested in a case study. Especialy if you have some that may not be doing so well...stagnant or slow growth accompanied by yellowish leaves. I'd like to see just how much of a tonic this java is. And I'd try just one application of pouring through of cold coffee. I still want to try it on my Neps...but once again, just once and wait six weeks for results.

Yes, I agree with dvg. If your willing to do this, with pics before and after and your results, it would be great.

If you're going to use the grounds, rinse them first with rain or distilled water.
